    Default What affects garrison value?

Simple enough question ~ what is used to calculate the % value a unit has towards garrison value?

I thought it might be the unit size but it seems to be based on unit cost or strength or some combination thereof ~ anyone know the exact way it works?

I think it's just unit size, and nothing else.

It's the percentage of soldiers of the garrison related to the total population of the province which they're garrisoning. However, there is something else: units with the attribute is_peasant count as half. If you play with the Romans think Hastati, Hastati_Sibeli, Leves. They all are peasant units as far as the game is concerned, meaning that you need two of those in order to get the same garrison level as from one unit of principes. There's also a hard limit on the order bonus you get from the garrison - it's 40%. Any additional units for garrison duty would be superficial once you get the 40% order.

Thanks ~ now it makes sense why some units give such a poor effect as garrisons.

Is there a full list of 'peasant' units somewhere?

You can open the export_descr_unit.txt file in the EBII data folder. Notepad will work, but personally I'd suggest using Notepad++ because if you decide to make changes, Notepad will corrupt the .txt file, whereas Notepad++ has no such problems.
