Titus can be found in his study, reading reports on the recent happenings in the Senate. A house-slave welcomes Senator Silanus into to the abode, directing him to the study and offering him a choice of either Wine or water as refreshments. Titus can already be seen drinking a cup of wine.

I shall have whatever the host is drinking

Silanus looked upon the Senator greeting him kindly

Greetings Senator, I hope I have not come at a bad time

The slave pours Silanus a cup of the wine, shows him his seat, and exits the room.

Titus looks up, and smiles with a confused look on his face. He did not actually know Silanus personally, but he was sure this was about to change, for better or worse.

Greetings, no not at all. I am just catching up on some events I have missed. What brings you to my humble abode?

I shall get down to business, I've come here to rally support for the creation of a faction. The purpose being to unite its members to ensure our members hold all the curial positions and to ensure our voices are heard over the screeching masses. Are you interested?

Titus maintained a rather emotionless face as he listened to Silanus' proprosal. What end would he possibly try to obtain with this proposal?

    Interesting,

Titus takes a sip of Wine before continuing to speak

Would this, err.. Faction.. Contain members of both the Patrician and Plebeian class?

The core of the faction will be made up of Patricians but there will be some plebeian who would be carefully screened and made sure that they are on the same page as us otherwise they will lose the faction support.

Titus grimaced at the thought of making the plebs life in this faction harder than his. He had family in the senate during the roughest time of the struggle of the orders, and Titus did not want it to come about again

I see, and what values will this "Faction" have? What end would it fulfill?

I believe we all have similar values senator, we all wish for the prosperity of Rome and its people. Achieving these goals may prove to be more difficult as time changes the dynamic of the Senate. It is our job nay duty to ensure that there is unity amongst the senators within the Senate to ensure the prosperity of Rome and its citizens. When it comes to elections Senators will have the support of the faction to ensure its faction members hold key positions within the senate. These are of course some of the perks of unity.

Titus remained emotionless as he listened to this, and then during his response

Very well, and what makes you think it falls upon you and your "faction" to ensure order in the senate? Would you presume this power when the Consul's stand present during sessions, along with the Praetors?

Perhaps you are uncertain who I am Senator? I am Senator Aulus Rupulius Silanus Praetor of Rome. The only power the faction will hold will be in votes, any motion brought to the floor will need the support of the faction otherwise it will fail. Uniting allows our voices to be stronger and allows us to shape Rome how we think it should be.

Titus smirks at Silanus' words, taking note of a seeming power complex

I know very well who you are, Praetor, but my question still stands. I will be a part of this faction, on a trial basis. If I feel that it does not align with my intentions for Rome, then I will sever any bond I have with it.

The faction hold no special powers, it merely unites senators with similar interests and goals to have a larger presence within the senate chambers. We all want to benefit Rome and its citizens, we just want our voice to be louder to get things done. Of course senator the republican party wouldn't members who arn't ideologically similar, it would defeat the purpose. May I ask you what are your intentions for Rome?

Titus straightened his posture at this question

My intentions are a Rome of equal opportunity for all senators, but in that same breath I want the Senate to have the ability to sideline all of those who do not act in Rome's best interest.

ahh but who decides what is in the best interest of Rome, you Senator? you can not preach about equal opportunities for all senators only to push away those who don't share your vision of Rome hence the irony of equal opportunity.

Titus furrows as brows at this retort, who was this senator 8 years his younger to argue so arrogantly? Doesn't he respect seniority?

By "..in Rome's best interest." I was referring that which does not harm Rome. There are many visionaries within the senate, each with a different idea of how Rome should look. I embrace this, as it will better Rome. There are also those who wish to use the opportunities of the senate to directly benefit themselves, instead of Rome. It is those who I would sideline, senators who act not to better Rome, but to better themselves through the harming of Rome. What makes you think your "Republican Party" will benefit Rome? Is not this an assumption you have to make when you force anything with it's power? Do not assume to lecture me when you are but a new man yourself.

Aulus is taken back by the audacity of this old man, thats all he was Old

So wise you are in wisdom yet you hold no offices, a man of your age one would assume you would be consul.

Titus smiled at this statement, more of a scoffing smile, but a smile none the less

There are only 2 consuls, so naturally everyone my age cannot hold said office.

Aulus thought that the only way this would cool down is if both parties made an effort, Titus did his part now it was Aulus's turn.

    Aulus lightly smiled back

indeed, perhaps the faction can secure you an office
