Valerius is let in by two guards and led to a warehouse on the western side of the villa, where Horatius is overseeing several workers unloading the last of his corbita's goods from Carthage. He turns around and nods to Valerius. "Good evening, Senator. I apologize for not being present to greet you. Would you like any refreshments?"
"Good Evening, Senator Horatius. Yes I would love something to drink."
"I see you are unloading new cargo. Where were your ships bound?" queries Valerius.

Horatius calls a servant over to bring Senator Valerius some wine, with the servant returning shortly with a glass of wine. "Carthage, the only city we have a trade agreement with at the moment. Hopefully this year that will change, though."

"Yes, Carthage does have materials that we can definitely make a profit from. My own ship return there with some copper recently." He paused. "I heard in the markets you recently acquired rights to a stone quarry, that is quite a list of properties you now own."

Praetor Aelianus would arrive at the villa, requesting an audience with the Senator.
Aelianus is led by a servant to the small garden of the villa, where Horatius is sitting on a bench. "Good day, Senator Sempronius."

Horatius nods. "Indeed, my ship has brought back some copper and other goods as well. Yes, I have." He pauses for a moment before continuing. "Are you trying to inquire if I am interesting in selling one of my properties, Senator?"

"Oh no, I am not looking to buying any of your properties. But I came on a much less aggressive mission. As perhaps we might work together if either of us in need of a resource the other does not currently have."
Valerius watches Horatius' reaction closely.

"Indeed, and a good day to you. I had hear you were recently involved in some trading missions - how did they go?"
"Relatively successful."
"Oh no, I am not looking to buying any of your properties. But I came on a much less aggressive mission. As perhaps we might work together if either of us in need of a resource the other does not currently have."
Valerius watches Horatius' reaction closely.
"Hmm...unfortunately, I don't see much benefit in such a partnership at this time, Valerius. As anything I may lack in resources can be resolved through trade with other states, exchanging Roman goods for those my properties lack."

"I see, but trade is not always successful, ships may be lost at sea, bandits or other raiders may steal your wares. Sometimes, other tribes may even reject our traders, and we come back with no profit."
Valerius replied.

Valerius replied.
"True, but the same could be said about any venture. A harvest can fail, mines can fail to produce or collapse, and a business may be looted. With any venture for profit there is risk."
"And what were you trading in? I myself am interested in obtaining a few products that are in shorter supply around Rome itself."
"Salt and Stone for grain, marble, copper, and tin."

"I see that my idea does not interest you at this time. But if you change your mine, I am only a short walk away." Valerius stands up and drains his goblet, "Good bye, Horatius."
