Lucius Tullius Varro arrives with a group of young Collegium men, resplendant in his golden chain signifying his rank with the Aventine Collegium he requests an audience with Horatius. It is well known that around Rome Lucius represents his Fathers interests in only the most of important matters...................

An older gentlemen greets Varro
"Good afternoon, sir. I suspect that you wish to see the Tribune? Right this way."
He motions for the men to come inside and leads them into the Domus and into a room where Horatius sits reading. There are a few chairs arranged in no particular order and the window is open to let in the sounds of the Roman streets and travelers
"Ah thank you, Viro."
He nodded in thanks to his assistant.
"May I ask who and your compatriots are?"
Horatius offers them a seat
Lucius nods and assumes a position on the seat offered by Horatius, sizing up the situation as a safe one he beckons for all but one of Collegium brothers to wait outside the door,
'Good day Horatius, I am Lucius Tullius Varro son of Senator Titus Tullius Varro, this is my man Catalus a trusted body guard those men outside are Collegium brothers. Firstly I would like to thank you on the nomination of my Father to the position of Praetor, my Father has sent me to discuss the development of Mining Corperation that may serve to benefit all parties.'
Lucius beckons Catalus towards the seat, Catalus produces a wax tablet with a number of figures and lines of latin text,
'I see Horatius you have invested considerable amounts of capitol on a number of mining interests within Rome and Ostia, I salute you on this foresight. My Father too seeks to establish a Mining Portfolio, with a view to establish a number of private contractors such as smiths and coin mints. Now as you well know the establishment of these ventures is an expensive and time consuming one, My Father suggests you join him on the board of a Mining Corperation that will pool our collective interests and facilitate us gaining a dominant position within the Industry.'
Lucius reads further from the tablet,
'At current rates the cost of mine comes in around 2.5k denarii, to gain an interest in each resource come in at a hefty 15k denarii. Now I believe if a group of prominant Plebs pool our collective capital we can spread the cost and build a number of mines covering each resource. This way we can share each respective resource between the Corperation and save large amounts of time and importantly capital in the development and procurement of each respective resource. This will allow us to develop the contractors much faster collectively than by acting independantly of each other'
'I see you already have holdings in Iron, Marble and Lead. This leaves copper salt and silver as yet availible to you, my Father has the capital to establish these mines this very year. Within two years we could stockpile 2 talents of each resource before exchanging them between ourselves and in 3 years begin the development of Smiths and Mints. In 5 years we could begin undertaking the construction of public building to solidify our position amongst the Roman People, Also As War looms the Patricians will need our arms and resources and we could benefit both in terms of monetary and politcal gains'

"I see......"
Horatius motioned to Viro to bring him and his guests a small helping of helping of wine and bread
"I must be honest, the only reason I have not furthered my investments in the mining industry is because Rome only controls so much. I am sure within the coming years, even this one, we will gain new ground with new resources. While I admire the idea of a Plebeian controlled economy, I must politely decline. We already fight a battle with the Patricians, no need to fight between each other when it comes to money and who gets what when. My endeavors will stay small for the most part, though if your father did start operations on his own, I would not see him as competition as I understand his position and where he comes from. However, it does concern me the amount of funds that would be floating around and exchanging hands."
He took a slight sip of win
"Who else have you approached with this idea if I may ask?"
'Hmm there would be no competiton between Plebs, more co-operation so that those with Mining interests can have the benefits of open market with access to each resource without having to worry about the start up cost of each individual resource mine, In relation to your worries about funds, between Plebs there would be none as basically the Corperation would be a trading platform'
Lucius sips his wine then continues
'Where funds would come into it would be if we were to run on a surplus say in Iron, essential in armour manufacure from where we could sell the Resource to Patricians, this would all be formalised of course and agreed upon if went ahead. See the Corperation as a collective economy outlet with the scope to develop the contractor industry as opposed to a sole money making vehicle. Everything would be above board and laid down in writing, members can contribute as much or as little as they please but the Corperation will remain their should they desire to utilise it.'
'Entry into the Corperation is open to all and I have spent many hours in discussion with Plebian and Patrican alike, in regards to the Patricians it was in attempt to secure finance to develop a mining base however it seems their disdain for Plebs outweighs their judgement on buisness and profit'

Whilst waiting for a response, Lucius sits deep in thought he then begins to speak.
'May I ask good Horatius would you be interested in selling one of your Iron mines if participation within the Mining Corperation is of no interest to you? Would 3250 Denarii be a reasonable price?'

"While that is more than a fair price, I must decline. However, my I keep you in mind should I need or decide to sell off some of my ventures?"
Lucius refuses to accept defeat in his negotiation,
'3,600? aquisition of an Iron mine is a priority of the Corperation'

"Perhaps with gains from this war, more Iron mines will be available for operation. But the one here in Rome is one I shall not let go of."
