Thread: Alexandria Eschate instead of Antiocheia Eschate

Default Alexandria Eschate instead of Antiocheia Eschate

Shouldn't the city Antiocheia Eschate replaced by Alexandria Eschate. First as far as I know there was no city with such a name. The only one which would be close is Antiocheia in Scythia (Αντιόχεια της Σκυθίας). Also Alexandria Eschate was by far more important, well known and (most probably) bigger than Antiocheia in Scythia.

Also in the case of Eschate, it was in all likelyhood destroyed or heavily damaged by the Saka and later refounded by Antiochos, possibly during his co-regency. Making the new name even more accurate...

Interesting. Now we know where "Emporiton" came from. But yes, the name will change:

Emporiton is written on that colony's coins, which should mean "emporitean" or "of emporion"...

Pliny who lived long after Antiochos is also speeking about Alexandria Eschate (and Antiocheia in Scythia which could be placed on the map as a minor settlement) in his Natural History.
