Default Cortez is indeed the killer.

I think I found a little problem. I was doing the battle of the spanish vs. aztec and I was losing bad. I am still trying to figure out a good strategy, but that isnt the point. So eventually all my units routed except for Cortez who I rode around to evade enemies. First I saw a unit of Arrow Warriors that only 5 people, but they were pretty close to their main army. I charged anyways and retreated, then repeated that a few times and destroyed them. Feeling pretty proud of myself I ran along dodging enemy arrows and swarms of aztec soldiers. Like the Arrow Warriors I spotted a group of general bodyguards with about 4 people. I thought I had killed the general already so I decided to end my fate gloriously. Charging head on into the fray I instantly toppled their main leader! All of a sudden the narrator is cheering "VICTORY IS YOURS!" and the thousand aztec warriors started to flee in terror! I never guessed it coming, and I laughed my ass off. Cortez routed 1000 troups by himself XD

Anyways, this might be a possible bug to be looked in to. If a general dies, even if one single unit kills him, then he can defeat an entire army. This is only seen in movies and books, but the chance of it happening like it did for me is so slim I dont think it is a big problem. I'd just like to share that story with ya guys

I think it has something to do with the fact that Otumba is a scripted battle and not a normal one, so I believe the army is designed to rout after the chiefs are killed.

I believe that Otumba is scripted, so that once all four Aztec chiefs are dispatched, you automatically win.

    Ha, that is pretty funny

In regards to it being a bug, the routing of units after the generals die is only in scripted battles, in unscripted it doesn't happen.

    Lucky win though ^^

is there an echo in here?

i believe it's because otumba is a scripted battle and when you kill the chiefs you win?

...anyone else want to say the same thing again?

Im not sure about that, because in my fight i killed all the generals (i think), yet i did not win. I won eventually by killing most of the enemy army, but they had nothing like those #'s. -Leon

Yes, I've never won by killing the chiefs, but then again, I have only one once...

I believe if you kill all the generals then you win, but that's only for scripted battles.

the secret to winning Otumba is to keep your men together above the rise so they fight the incoming units with the advantage of higher ground and when the the army comes from behind sandwich them with a few foot units and cav

That happened with me too! I used my last 2 units (cortez and his bodyguard) to assassinate the king! I loved it!

Okay, on that first screen, why are there two numbers for enemies killed. One normal, and one in parenthesis, are the ones in parenthesis the ones you actually killed, and the ones you captured in normal letters??

Why is everyone so hang up about Otumba?

I won it the very first time with only one of my units routing and most in tact. I did use puase button a lot, but that's fair, considering you have the laf of 1fps (you can also understand why I haven't played it since).

I have to agree, these battles aren't just too terribly hard. Otumba especially because of your amazing cavalry and infantry.

    Not sure about this but

The routing of units occurs after the "Main" general dies is only in scripted battles, in unscripted it doesn't happen.

I noticed this when I won most of the battles after axing about 2 generals before the advisor said, "AHA there's the warchief! Kill him!"

In later battles I killed at 3 generals before encountering the main one.

This battle is tough for me. I havent moved them to the ridge yet which is probably a good idea. The left side has some good units except some of the frontline are missile units and since I didnt move em it kinda put a gap in my line when they retreated. The pure numbers of the aztec end up overwhelming me, but if I can hold on two sides of the ridge it should work with my missiles in the middle. It seems like the aztec army is made up primarily of missile units and light infantry like peasants and a few heavy infantry like those guys that start with a "C" and the general bodyguards. I will try making a nice fortification on the ridge next time. One thing that mightve helped that battle was right at the start I sent my general and all my cavalry along with two heavy infantry units to the right to that general chilling there. On my first charge I killed him, but sort of did a bad retreat getting my men caught in advancing aztecs and losing most the infantry I sent.
