Crashing before battles

Hello guys, I´m playing a campaign with Rohan, and everything was working just fine, until yesterday, where I got a crash after making a sally in a siege battle which I won, after clicking the "End Battle" button I got CTD, I just turned off my computer giving it up as a random CTD, but today as I loaded that same battle again, I got CTD , the camera zooms in on the armies and CTD´s before going into the loading screen. I let a turn pass and I attacked a Kingdom of Adunabar army with same results- Is there something I can do? I´m using Steam on WIndows 7.

The CTD after a battle is ended is some vanilla issue nothing can be done about and noone knowing what causes it. Happened to me all the time back in the day. Same is true, IIRC, for the CTD before a battle.
But it's weird that the CTD occurs continuously, shouldn't be the case according to my experiences.

Did you change some file entries? I remember this happening to me after I did some half-assed modding.

I didnt change anything, nothing on the files, I DID use the toggle_fow cheat to take a look at the other factions, but that´s it, I dont reckon that would be it. On EB I read that saving previous a battle corrupted the saves or something, but I havent done that in the Fourth Age, and yes three battles in a row, all CTD´s

I don't think I've ever had so many crashes in a row, but one thing you might try is just doing something completely different - move your armies all out of enemy range for a few turns, or attacking somewhere else. In the past that has, I think, helped get me out of a crash loop.

Its probably just superstition but ever since I read somewhere that post battle crashes sometimes occur because the computer doesn't have time to calculate things before returning to the campaign map I always check the casualties scroll for a few seconds before ending the battle. No idea if it works, but trying it cant hurt.

Yeah, I do that too. Most of my sieges end with the defender sallying against me or, more frequently, a relieving army attacking me, and I've often suffered from crashes upon returning to the campaign map after those battles in particular. (I suspect it's the computer's last-ditch attempt to get me to quit beating it.) But crashes *seem* to happen less when I wait for awhile before ending the battle.

Hmm I have heard that as well, the first CTD was after my army sallied out, big battle, I won, out of pure exhaustion I just ended the battle, and got CTD, maybe it´s no rumor after all.

I solved it, by moving my heir´s army a bit of it´s last position, played the 1st battle that had CTD, no problem at all.

Do you have TNS + the Wars of Men add-on, or just TNS?

Ok. I was just wondring if you had installed Wars of Men and then forgot to re-apply the Hotfix. Since that is not the case, I'm curious as to why you had that consistent crash. I think it's the only one reported since 2.6 full was released.

It was weird all right, I still dont know what might be the cause, I looked around in the sub-forum to find any CTD similar to mine, didn´t find any, that´s proof you run a very tight ship, anyhow, I will be in the look out for more. Thanks for the help

So...this is weird, having CTD´s again in my Harad campaign, which is big trouble, I dont know what I do wrong, still is the same CTD before battle, the camera zooms in, music continues, there´s a pause in music and then it goes on again, aaaand then to desktop I´m really confused.

Update: When trying other saved games, I get the same CTD errors, it´s really frustrating, can anyone offer any insight? Thanks.

Not off the top of my head, no, nobody else ha reported this sort of crash. Some things you can try (if you have the patience) is to vary the battle setup and try to isolate the problematic factor. Ie, if there's a general involved, move him away before the battle.

Same way as you'd upload any other file. Compress it (.ar, .zip,, etc) and upload it either to a post here as an attachment or to an external hosting site (eg gamefront) and post the link here.

I have the Crash to Desktop Before my 1st battle. I have installed Ver 3 both halves and the 3.2 update. "Medieval 2 has encountered an unknown error"
