    Icon8 Performance Troubles

Hi, very infrequent poster but long term fan here.

I bought a new PC recently and I was eagerly awaiting it to put maybe 10,000 units into a battle and for it all to run smoothly keeping in mind that the engine for this game came out in 2006. However, even with around 5000 units my PC suffers badly with frame rates as the camera pans on the units even without the graphics options fully maxed out.

Is this a problem with the game or my rig? (I've updated graphics drivers)

    Key hardware:

    Graphics
    : Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Boost OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Card
    RAM: TeamGroup Elite Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
CPU: Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz
Hard Drive: Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic
    OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit

I seem to remember reading somewhere that older games do not utilize the greater number of cores in CPU's, is this true/could that be a problem? Though it seems more graphics is a problem considering the frame rate drops when thousands of units are being viewed.

I know its not the most powerful PC, but it should be able to smash this game and it doesn't! Is there a particular setting I need to turn off?

Thanks for any help, I'll try out anything and give feedback!

I also think that it cant use more like 2GB Ram or something. Although someone may correct me.

So wouldn't everyone have the same problem?

As far as I know this game only uses one Core of the cpu, there is no fix for that. Though there is some program written by someone that can maximize the amount of ram that medieval2 can use.

Try some of these tips, and also there is a Large Address Aware or Kingdoms More than 2GB Usage Patch: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...Guide-for-TATW

Also, turn off shadows, do not use anti aliasing, shaders set to 2, battle shadows off..

You have a great NEW MODERN PC for an OLD AGED GAME ENGINE unfortunately.. Until Creative Assembly releases some patch which improves performance and resource usage, we are stuck with having these issues.
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..
Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

That "Large Address Aware or Kingdoms More than 2GB Usage Patch" worked beautifully. It's not perfect, but noticeably much better.

    Thanks!

Have you installed it outside of x86 program files? This helped me considerably.

Yes, installing it anywhere else, just not in Program Files or Program Files(x86) helps a lot, and it even reduces turn times.

Yes it works for Steam too. Especially for heavy scripted submods like MOS. From 5-10 minutes to 1 minute.

Beautiful. And this improves performance elsewhere, too? Why is that?

User Account Control - UAC checks all processes done by programs/games installed in either Program Files or Program Files(x86) folder. That way it slows down actual game processes: battle progress and resource usage, campaign movement during AI turn, execution of game scripts etc..

Since the game is not installed in either Program Files or Program Files(x86) folder, which are under " observation and security checking " by User Account Control, the game processes/scripts/battles/everything is not under UAC observation and thus there should be an increase in CPU/GPU usage by the game engine.

Improvement in performance, for some users at least a big decrease in time waiting between AI turns.

And, it all depends on your hardware at the end.
