    Default Networking Help

My family has a home network consisting of 4 PC's. Its main usage so far has been to connect all of the PC's to the internet which works perfectly, however my printer recently broke so I wish to use a printer connected to another PC and I also want to share some files over the network.

However, I can't access the shared folders on the other PC's through My Network Places. Also, when I try to add a printer it doesn't find any other printers than the one connected to my own PC which doesn't work.

I've run the network setup wizard and I've shared the printers and the folders that I wish to access (and the printers are turned on when I do this) but still I can't access them.

Can anyone give me any advice as to how to solve my problem?

Are all the computers on the same workgroup? What are the ip addresses? Does My Network places see the other computers?

Yes they're all on the same workgroup.
I don't know any of their IP addresses and I have forgotten how to find out the IP address.
No My Network Places doesn't see the other computers, however, my PC does show itself in its own list.

Well there's your problem, if you can't even see the other 3 computers in My Network Place then they are not configured right.

Ok so how would I go about reconfiguring the network?

I've done what is written, but still I can't access shared printers or folders and can't see network computers (so no change).
If I remember correctly, when the network was first setup with just two PC's I could access the shared docs and see the other PC on the network. However, since then, the PC which is the ICS host was re-formatted and it's been since then that I haven't been able to access shared documents or shared printers.

Then how do you set up a WLAN? I've got a 2MB ADSL connection, and want to share it with my home computer and my dad's laptop. Plus I want the printer of course. I am now able to wirelessly connect to the internet by both computers, but how can I for example share files between the computers? And how can I print from the printer (connected to the PC)?

Go to My Network places to see if the computers are seeing each other. Next thing is to check to make sure they are in the same workgroup via My Computer, system information, computer name.

if you are running any software firewalls make sure you add file and print sharing to the exceptions list.

If you want to find an ip address on a windows system start->run->"cmd" brings up a command prompt. they type ipconfig or ipconfig/all for detailed info.

Ok then, thanks for the help, shall try that soon. Unfortunately the motherboard broke in the computer acting as host for the internet the day after I last posted. Shall be getting a router instead of a hub soon and will also be getting a new PC to replace the old one that broke so that shall be able to try your suggestions again then.
