    Default Anyone played Numidia?

I'm just wondering if anyone played with the Numidians and what your experiences are.

On the same note, iirc in the previews you could see 3 different Numidian bodyguards a long time ago, yet they are not in the game yet. Any reason for not including a unit made that long ago?

    Thanks!

    My very first campaign

They are supposed to have the best javelins in the game but it is very hard to get them to throw anything. So i just used a small front line of troops and mass light cavalry. The generals bodyguard pummels his enemies to death with the blunt end of his javelin just as their fathers and their fathers, fathers before them. The light cav have the same animation but the their javelins are double sided.

Fighting in Numidia and Mauritania is very hilly so movement is slow but the battle map looks great and dynamic. The province descriptions are not completed in that area.

You start allied with Carthage and they give you 1000 mnai per turn(script) so long as you dont attack them. However they don't pay off other numidians to fight your tribe if you get to strong so you may smoothly expand at Carthage expense. I never reformed my tribe so i cant tell you what you get.

My second campaign was with Numidia, but i found i relatively boring. Carthage put its focus on its colonies and the African cities are weak garrisoned. With your startigng stacks you can easily overrun them.
The reformed units are already in. Just make a custom battle, select Numidian nobles and upgrade their armor. Every armor upgrade represents an other era.

That's intersting. I tried it, but only with the Personal bodyguards, not with the unit that can be recruited. Thanks! I might try numidia to do something different soon

I tried Numidia, but Carthage was driven out of Sicily and reduced to a single full stack in Iberia, and the Ptolemids would not attack from the east. So Carthage had no choice but to accumulate troops around the capital and could not not be dislodged by Numidia, which was confined to five cities. The Numidian economy relies on trade with Carthage.

If Rome invaded Africa the problem would be solved.

And then... after destroying Carthage, Rome would invade You (Numidia).

The problem is that Carthage has just a few provinces but innumerable stacks of troops waiting. If I start a war with them, my income plummets. So does theirs, but their king's purse takes care of that.

I reloaded an old save game and am trying again. Because I get 1000 mnai per town as long as I stay at peace with them, I figure that either the Romani will invade or I will accumulate 500,000 mnai and can perhaps fund a successful war.

Invading Romans would be easy to beat.

Carthage never attacks, is always bankrupt, and has a military that increases by about one unit a turn. The way my campaign has evolved, with Cartage driven back to Africa, it can probably never be defeated.

So I conquered all of Iberia and have crossed the Pyrenees. After 250 turns I have 20 provinces and 300,000 mnai. The 1000 mnai per turn that is granted by one of the native government options as long as you are at peace with Carthage really helps.

I can see no way of causing any significant culture migration.

Conquering all of Western Europe is a distinct possibility, but the minute Carthage turns its ten full stacks against me, I am doomed.
