I was looking through the preferences and I saw stuff about hotseat games, does anyone know anything about this? It would certainly be really cool, but unlikely as we havent heard anything from CA about it... or has anyone?

Its not impossible, maybe they try to have it like a surprise.
If its even in, then it might be my work!
Just before the summer I bombed the CA mailbox....
Firstly to include Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia as a faction.
later on I sent them Ideas on multiplayer campaigns.... Hotseat.
They said they liked the idea but that they could not discuss it.
Hotseat would be freaking great, but what happens if you and your budy battle each other?

sorry to sound noobish... but what is hotseat?
A hotseat game is basically where two people play a game on the same computer. So you would both be playing different factions in Total war and taking turns to play when it was your turn. I think.
And for those who are curious and lazy, the Op is refering to this entry in the preferences file in the M2TW directory :
[multiplayer]
hotseat_autoresolve_battles = 0
hotseat_disable_console = 1
hotseat_disable_papal_elections = 0
hotseat_save_prefs = 0
hotseat_update_ai_camera = 0
hotseat_validate_diplomacy = 1

Only dream I ever have. Is it the surface of the Sun?
Everytime I shut my eyes, it's always the same.
Why not hotseat between 2 computers ? PBEM
I imagine the coding required to make it possible over a LAN or Internet is immense and thus not likely. I could be wrong though.

Here is one of my mails.
"Hi, My name is -----. I've emailed before... about including Armenian Cilicia as a Playable or non-playable faction. But this is not about that.
I've been thinking, and what if you could have a mode/feature that you can play a multiplayer game... campaign.. the mode could be called Hot seat. Its you and someone else, playing on the same PC. If you have player Heroes of Might and Magic III you'll see the feature there.
The Realtime battles could be solved by AI vs AI to make it fair. And the ordinary situations such as Player1 vs AI could be played as usual.
I'd love this feature, I've wanted this in RTW.... to play with my friends and my brother. And this would help people tho doesnt have access to the Internet.
Please e-mail me back and tell me what you thought of something like this.
Many regards - Sweden"
Well in RTW there was garbage files about a MP campaign, so it could be an idea they bailed on, but who knows. Cant wait to find out.

Sounds like a good idea I'm not sure I'd like to see the 2 AI armies battling though, you might as well auto resolves ad save yourself time.
has anyone heard anything from CA about this yet? or should we just wait for release.
hotseat was used during the testing of the game to help the testers test certain aspects of multiple factions on the campaign

It would be cool to get a button were you decide to watch the AI battle it, and button to auto-resolve it..i mean you could actually see your good general (with good ammount of command stars) destroy your friends army commanded by a worthless captain.
Hotseat would be fun.
I remember hotseating in Civ 2, good times.
The hard part would be the battles between players though, the autoresolve would have to be very good at calculating the types of units, generals etc
It would have to be perfected or else a 500 man army could beat a 1500 man army. (Horse archer armies could pull these kinds of things off)
It would be nice to have but It won't happen for this game.

Grell
Keep in mind companies try every form of playing their game under the sun.
They just test all the various styles and then keep the best.
Wich in TW's case is the single player civ style campaign followed by the good old TW battles.
TE has a so called multiplayer campaign that allows different players to be in the same campaign, don't know if it can be improved :hmmm:
But I don't know so much about it![]()
hotseat would be amazeing
