    Default A tale of weird and wonderful happenings

    I can't really describe it better. And this isn't even steam but the regular retail, disc version.

    Starting a few months back the background movie in the selection screen (any movie in the menu, for that matter) stopped playing.
    And now recently my Bare Geomod (new install) started crashing at the splash screen.

    While I haven't managed to fix the first issue the second is a bit weird: I just have to add the idx and dat files from a kingdoms (vanilla doesn't work) animation folder and then it works. Which does not make any sense because I haven't got a descr_skeleton file included in bare geomod.
    On top of that if I try to run the medieval2.exe it crashes as well on splash screen.

    I am going to re-install from scratch (once more with the discs and 1.5 update that I am using for years), but I haven't got much hope that it will change.

    They have time-out ? Maybe the video license expired somehow ? Or some windows update cause the file no longer working/compatible ? The Kingdoms version is more recent than the main M2TW so maybe that's why it work when you add the idx and dat file from Kingdoms ?

    I can only think of an outside influence as the installation has been from the same source since time immemorial. The in game videos work - just not the ones in the menu. I had a lovely animated piece in my RotK menu (the coin) that disappeared from one day to the next while nothing was altered in the mod. Took me a while to figure out that it wasn't a file problem.

    This would be a good one for MBA if he was still in civilization. He was the movie maker.

    Re-installing solved the animation issue, maybe some registry mess?

    Rad = http://www.radgametools.com/

    MBA = Mr BigAb but i can't remember how he spelled it. One of the intro movies he did before leaving was for "The Last Kingdom".
