It's too big and far too intrusive, while you are reading a thread or searching a forum for an interesting discussion. It needs to be a lot smaller. Until a better solution is found, an option to not have it displayed should be available.

I didn't participate because I was modding... (we had that debate a few years ago before you took over)
I work from a laptop now and my resolution is 1024 X 768.
I DO appreciate all you do - and that this site is free to use.

I didn't think that was snide at all. He asked me if something was considered, I pointed out the previous conversation and that he didn't participate. I have no idea why he didn't, and he told me why he didn't. What is wrong with that??
I am sure we have had many debates in the past.
I looked at Analytics well before I even considered any of this, and based the layout on the smallest resolution that was regularly used. The number of people using 1024 is so small that you cant really plan a site layout on them. Everything fits at 1366 though it is tight, and that is by far the biggest group of the "low resolution" group. Out of 7.8 million page views in the last 30 days, 41,000 of them are users below 1366 resolution. I would have bet (and will still bet) that 99% of those are people with mobile devices (tablets, phones) for which the sidebar does not show up at all. Sorry it sucks on a laptop at 1024 but we cannot design things around less than 1% of page views.I work from a laptop now and my resolution is 1024 X 768.
I know you do, and if I came across rude earlier I did not intend to. I was just pointing out that this conversation has been going on for a while and I even asked people to view it on the MCC site before I did anything here.I DO appreciate all you do - and that this site is free to use.

Idk GeD that's a really snide way to respond to some of these issues. Just saying that we should of responded earlier doesn't invalidate the obvious issues people are having here. Myself included, it makes everything look more cluttered and I find it highly distasteful. Also I wasn't even aware such a discussion was even happening, so there's that factor too. Just my 2 cents.
I don't mind it. Though I would like it more if it was only on the front page like the last one.
I don't mind it too much. It will be good when there's lots of interesting things to fill the side bar with.
The compression on the posts though make them absurdly long. My mouse wheel is going to fly off with all this scrolling.
So I am assuming this does not effect mobile in any form of
way due to the fact it would crash the safari/google app
if one tried to access the site using mobile
You should now get the default vBulletin theme for a mobile device which is pretty plain. It wasn't detecting mobile devices properly before now, so it was trying to serve you the main site. Eventually we will customize that a bit with colors and an image or two, but it will still be pretty barebones in terms of extra content. Its mainly text based.
i got used to it already.
Hey GreenEyedDvl. I have one concern as a blacked out theme user. The text on the side bar is a light blue colour and it's very difficult to see with the background. Could you give it a more contrasting colour so that we can see what it actually says?
Why is this implemented in the threads? I think it should be reserved for the forums. The threads with screenshots are now difficult to see.

I understood posting images as attachments took a big toll on site resources and was therefore not encouraged.
That was the reason for me to open an account on an image hosting site. As it is you who is suggesting to use attachments, I must conclude that I must have misunderstood this.
As I already stated in the first thread about this, especially on my 1366x768 windows tablet the sidebar is taking away too much space.
I wonder though why there is still a fairly big border around the forum pages now that the sidebar uses more room and is present on all pages of the forum.
I mean the dark brown parts with the pattern that is on either side of the pages.
