Unless you do a minor change in the battle_models
But the trade-off is worth it for the better throwing animation, right? In any case the Euzonoi slash as well as stab, so it won't always look funny.

For axe-wielding skirmishers use 'eastern_axeman'. I fogot about it, sry.

    No worries, it's updated now.

I think I might abandon my current game given this will make a not-insignificant part of my armies actually useful.

Quintus, the Light_spear change was savegame compatible for me.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to
    (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks.

    Strange, it wasn't for me.

^ you shouldn't have ANY problems with 'light_spear' or that axe animation change in terms of save game compatibility.
EDU is almost always safe to edit.

Not sure what's going on, but when I tried to use an earlier attempt, it crashed on loading the saved game. When I restored the original EDU, it worked. I don't remember now if I'd used Notepad++ that time before, so maybe that was it.

EDIT: Yep, I get an "unspecified error" every time I try to load by existing savegame with the new EDU. No matter, I could do with starting again anyway, this should make battles more fun now my skirmishers work and secondary spear types don't do weird stuff like push into phalanxes.

The unspecified error is difficult to trace, practically impossible, but I'd still look at the log and look for errors.
In a rather bizarre case, I had to restart my campaign after my PC decided it's the same date, but October. Nothing to do with changes.

I restarted my campaign; it works fine now and some of those early battles are more fun when my Euzonoi actually throw their javelins, and my Thureophoroi don't get beaten in melee by knife-wielding, unarmoured skirmishers.

Oh my word, I just used Hippakontistai for the first time, and they are useless. They've got exactly the same "won't throw their javelins" problem that the infantry javelineers did. They're also not that fast, consider they're light cavalry.

Is this the case with all javelin cavalry? Looking at the EDU, I wonder if it's their range (which is either 45m, or 55m)?
