Yes, Dixie is indeed not a word any european group would use as a stage name. Nevermind though, I always liked their music and this hate campaign just shows the retardedness of some people and groups which isn't exclusive to america I might add.Originally Posted by Erik

Yes I wonder since when death threats and a complete hate campaign count as "disagreement". It is one thing to disagree, but quite another to try shutting people down because of what they say. Would you enjoy it being thrown off TWC because the moderators disagree with your opinion?

Not talking about those fools, anyone who sends death threats or try to silence *anyone* including the Dixie Chicks is quite frankly a low life pos. Im talking about the concerts, the cd sales, radio stations not playing their new release due to complaints. All of these are valid counter responses to their comments. As far as TWC goes, techincally they arent obligated to allow any of us to voice our opinion IF they decided to do so, I post here because they dont do that. There are other forums such as Democratic Underground (left wing forum btw) who outright delete, ban anyone posting views slanted to the right.Originally Posted by Rapax
Couldnt agree more but really is saying one is ashamed a person is from your state or calling him a "*** idiot" really useful critical debate on the goverment? I mean if you start off with such a combative tone you shouldnt be suprised when people oppose it. As I said above to Rapax, obviously its a different story when morons resort to death threats but talking more the general opposition to the group in response to their comments which is imo perfectly reasonable. If an American cannot cope with the right of free citizens to criticize their government and the "leadership" of said government, they should move to a country that will oppress them in the fashion that they desire. I, for one, will stay here with my guns and my right to call people who hate freedom, "traitors" and "idiots".
True, while any death threats are completely unacceptable there is rarely any 'threat' involved hell Bush probably could publish a book on death threats involving himI guess the difference between western death threats and Muslim death threats is that usually the latter carries it out, or attempts.
Well most 'famous' celebs dont know much bout the geopolitical realities of the world either so it about evens outOriginally Posted by Last Roman
Whether its Sean Penn speaking about Iran or Billy Bob Joe the one tooth redneck from Alabama talking about Dixie Chicks...its pretty much all the same.

Well done sir. Defending patriotic and heroic (and hot) ladies like this ought to be an American institution. What a shame it is that the imbecilic, the backward, and the severely limited are unable to recognize love of country and courage when it presents itself. But of course, this incapacity on the part of so many may stem from the fact that faux-patriots are truly cowards, who do not know their own nation well enough to understand its principles.
Thomas Jefferson would love the Dixie Chicks. And if one of them was at least mixed, I could see him trying to hook up.

I hated the Dixie Chicks long before they opened their mouths and were horrorified to discover when one speaks ones mind you should expect people who disagree with you will do the same...that being 'famous' doesnt entitle them to a free ride. Much to their dismay Im sure alot of the people who disagreed with them were in fact Dixie Chick fans and voiced their displeasure by not supporting. I do so love how they cry they are being treated unfairly, or 'repressed' by people refusing to buy their cds or attend their concent...sorry girls but if people dont like what you say you shouldnt be shocked when they decide not to give you their entertainment dollars. Perhaps if they avoided name calling of the President and personal insults to voice their displeasure they could have avoided it.Originally Posted by harm
The hardest thing about being a real American patriot is that so many "citizens" do not even understand the principles of a free society. What a shame. We can only hope that the ignorant, the ill-informed, and the slave-minded will simply not breed, or ever teach children anything regarding civics or love of country.Originally Posted by danzig

Certainly I accept the right of freedom o speech and am suprised they did not expect backlash.Originally Posted by danzig
This however, did get some giggles out of me. We pride ourselves on being so far removed from what we consider the barbary of the near east, yet still cling to isolated aspects which make us related (In this case, it's using threats of violence to defeat someone's opinion or view). I guess the difference between western death threats and Muslim death threats is that usually the latter carries it out, or attempts.![]()
Well, to be honest, I'm surprised that they're surprised at the backlash. But on the other hand, that backlash is filled by a bunch of redneck nationalistic dumbasses who don't know the first thing about being a real patriot.

umm Pearl Jam and bands alike have been bashing the president and presidents for years before the Dixie Chicks. So, to say they shouldn't be supprised is alittle kneejerk. They didn't realize how pussy country music has become....if anything...
and most of those bands suck, nobody cares, the dixie chicks on the other hand is a lil different. They had fans.umm Pearl Jam and bands alike have been bashing the president and presidents for years before the Dixie Chicks
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.
pearl jam has more fans, just their fans are too high to give a ****. It's all old news to their audience.Originally Posted by JP226
