Default EB II Artwork & other contributions

    Hi all,

The original Europa Barbarorum has seen some amazing unit concept art that is still circulated widely in signatures and elsewhere on the web. All credit goes to the incredibly talented Caratocos/Nate and some of his work can still be found here.

With EB II the team has outdone themselves yet again in delivering an amazing mod, however, very little (fan)art has yet been published aside from some inspiring first screenshots and AARs. I wanted to create this thread to allow us to share some of our efforts in & around EB II, to accompany the mod as it further develops. I know the team has a number of very talented artists working on content in the background and maybe in time some of their work can shared here. But at the same time this should also be a platform for players to share their contributions no matter the medium (I consider atmospheric screenshots, AARs and other forms of immersive written content equally artistic to drawings).

I for one had the great opportunity to join the team recently in assisting with some unit concepts and wanted to share these with you. Any feedback, thoughts & questions are more than welcome and I look forward to what other parts of the EB II community have to contribute.

I'll start of with one of my more recent attempts at sketching out two Belgian units. As we've had a rather lively discussion about nudity and male copulatory organs in one of the EB II TWC threads I've decided to pixel out the relevant areas. An unmodified version can be found here (warning: moderate nudity).

    Nice, looking great!
Then, as throngs of his enemies bore down upon him and one of his followers said, "They are making at thee, O King," "Who else, pray," said Antigonus, "should be their mark? But Demetrius will come to my aid." This was his hope to the last, and to the last he kept watching eagerly for his son; then a whole cloud of javelins were let fly at him and he fell.

So the dead bleeding guy is okay but a penis is too much? Please. Instead, the other option should of offered a pixelated version for the sentimentals.

As for you artwork, well its exceptional.

You're preaching to the choir, but since some people have voiced their concerns on this forum (and I'm sure there're some minors in the audience as well) I decided to err on the side of caution. Thanks for your kind feedback!

Any chance your artwork will appear in loading screens, as those awesome work from Nate?

I believe the team is working with a different artist for updated loading screens but I'm sure we'll find out more about this as time passes. My drawings are mostly meant to be concepts for potential future units and I'm still playing around a little to find out what style best suits the purpose.

It's difficult to create engaging poses while maintaining the basic requirements for concept art (i.e. all details of the unit need to be visible for the 3D modellers, etc.). Essentially it means I need to avoid crazy perspectives and keep the drawings rather flat.

Cool pics, cant wait to see more, espicially for non-Celtic factions.
The pixeled penis is hillarious of course: Besides him lays a dead man with a sword rammed into his stomach so that the blood is coming out, but the PENIS has to be censored. I understand this decision to prevent unnecessary desicussions but still this proofs how ridicolous some peoples are.

Thanks, and as far as non-celtic factions are concerned: I've done some of that in EB II unrelated work, but for now the focus here is on Celtic units. But who knows what the future holds.

There're some gems there. Great art! Maybe we'll get to see more soon.
