    Default play as two factions?

I dont know if this has been possible with a mod or anything for rome total war but I am definatly interested in playing more than one faction in medieval 2 total war.

yes I am a bit weird but I would enjoy it if I could builld up armies with two factions and let them either ally with each other or destroy each other. this way I could ensure that I fight against a well balanced army on the campaign map.

Playing all factions might be fun too, just to mess around with. weird expansions, migrations, more good commanders, completely manipulating the medieval world on your own, making large armies to let them fight against each other, seeing which one will win.

That would be a very interesting mod. There are two ways it might be worked -

1 - You start the game and play as one faction and the game handles all the others. Then next time you start as your 'other' faction and the game handles all the others. Then you'd just change faction whenever you wanted to initiate some event, etc

2 - You own 2 factions from the start, and have two turns per round (one for each faction).

I'm not a modder (not with RTW anyway), so I can't offer any suggestions of how to do it.

Well you wouldn't make war on yourself. I think we're supposing that you were joint ruler of say, Normandy and England (to take an example from history, 1066), or in the 19th century when King George (was it the 3rd?) was king of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Hanover (in Germany).

If you just want battles between evenly matched armies, then why bother with the campaign map when you have the skirmish mode?

There has been a mod that enabled that for RTW - you could change faction during a campaign. I'll try and dig up a link...

the battles would be handled the same I think, you controll the army that has the turn.

and I dont like custom battles, I want the campaign map. I am rather positive that it would be possible to play as two factions since it all goes with turns. I am not a modder though but it just looks like something thats possible.

You can use the Script used for the ROME TOTAL WAR MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIGN MOD, I need someone to help me disable the anti UI scripts so that you do not have to reload the game every turn. but the old faction will be governed by the AI that were used for the faction you took over. (EI: Napoleon smith for an faction that got Ghengish smith)

yes, only on a bigger scale. you could make one country very strong and then try to defeat them with another faction which you build up to be the attacker while the other becomes a strong defender with lots of stone walls and archers.
