    Default Minor problem with diplomacy.

I put this here to see if there is something I've overlooked, but it may well be that I've merely encountered a small bug.

50 years or so into the game, now it's just big empires slugging it out. I am Macedon, to the north west Sweboz dominates with the Italian peninsular taken over by Carthage, who is an enemy to both me and Sweboz. However, I cannot form an alliance with Sweboz (who are currently neutral to me), the option just isn't there when I send an ambassador to speak with them.

Now I believe you can't form an alliance with a neutral faction who are allied to one of your enemies, but this isn't the case here; Sweboz currently has no allies and is neutral to two of my three enemies (the third being Carthage).

The only thing I can think of is the fact that I may have been allies to a now dead faction (Rome) who were enemies to Sweboz, and this is preventing the alliance. I would consider this a bug. I shoulda saved Rome when I had the chance...

I'll put a poll, simply because I've never made one before.

I think you are looking for the "Make peace with the dead", Yes so you are Macedon and you are at war with Sweboz and Rome, and Rome is destroyed, you won't be able to secure an alliance with Sweboz. I'm not sure if EB has "peace with the dead" but you can try.

click on the faction icon (1), go to diplomacy tab (2), click on the ? mark in top right corner (3), the advisor should pop up if it doesn't then Peace with the dead wasn't implemented, if it does click on the "show me how" button and you should all set and the option for alliance should be there.
“The hardest thing in the world is to assume the mood of a warrior. It is of no use to be sad and complain and feel justified in doing so, believing that someone is always doing something to us. Nobody is doing anything to anybody, much less to a warrior.” ― Don Juan
"It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag." -- Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Thanks, I'll give that a shot later.

The reason why Sweboz won't ally with you if you have the ally option is because either they share a border with you or you have a province near their territories.
