Adviser won't stay open?

I'm having trouble with the adviser, when I click on him he only stays open for a split second before disappearing.
Has anyone come across this or how to fix it? I started a campaign with Pergamon and he's saying something about colonists but I can't read it so feel like it's not worth continuing until I do.
