    Default Something interesting

I don't know if this was brought up before, if it has sorry I havn't seen it.

    Pavise Crossbow Militia
The crossbow is an excellent weapon for the militiaman, being easy to use, although slow to reload. These men carry a large pavise shield to give them some protection while reloading. Being relatively wealthy townsfolk, they can also afford decent armour. A certain number of militia can be maintained in a city for free.
That is what is interesting to me. I got that from the Sicilian faction describtion at totalwar.com
Has anyone else heard about some militia units not having upkeep if in a city? I havn't seen that in the describtion for any other militia units.
I shouldn't have to live in a world where all the good points are horrible ones.

Is he hurt? Everybody asks that. Nobody ever says, 'What a mess! I hope the doctor is not emotionally harmed by having to deal with it.'

You know, with their emphasis on militia units on the unit rosters, I was thinking that they were designing the game so that a player would ideally use the spear, halberd, archer, and cavalry militias to provide a rounded, cheap defense and actual garrison for their cities. I like the sound of a certain number of crossbow militia, per town, being free because if that is the case with all the militia units, then all you need in peacetime is your militia garrisons, thus saving money so that you can muster some nice big heavy forces when war comes. I really like the direction of this game.

Yea right! If that happened, and we no longer had any reason to recruit peasants other than to use as expendable first rank fodder than praise be to CA!

True, I wonder if they've built in any restrictions for militia. Perhaps they cannot leave their settlement or province?

Another very good use of peasants was as a tool to shift your population around.

It seems theres really gona be a more realistic feudal system of recruitment, rather than in mtw where the recruitment system was basically professional. Instead of having to keep large armies we have self sustaining garrisons in each town or fort, but when the time for war comes we can rally our feudal kights for battle. I dunno if it is gona be this way but if it is id be very pleased

I think they just cost upkeep money when out of a city. This is good, now we will see more varied armys, not just armys full of unstoppable elite soilders. More realistic that way. I wander if it applys with forts?

suffice to say that you need those militia to man the towers too ej. So wont be much of a defence left with like 2 or 3 units manning towers.

yea, ive seen a screen shot (didnt save it, have no idea where it is now...) but it was a discription of walls in the construction que and it told you the number of militia units that lv of walls can support, for example 3. so that means you can maintian up to 3 of any "militia" unit for free when they are stationed in a castle with that lv of walls. I can only assume that the higher the lv the bigger a garrison your food supply can support for free... its very logical, makes a lot of sense if you think about it, and is really awsome in my opinion!

Gd Gd, that means we wont get 1 militia unit garrisoning a cidatel. Seeing as you need units to use the turrets, only having one unit would render much of the citadel usless.

well, i dunno, because all it says is free UPKEEP but if the AI still doesn't create units to be in the castles, the free upkeep won't matter. i would like it better if you got units for FREE that couldn't leave the castle. You pick which units you wan't for free, and in a seige of that castle they will show up.

DUDE!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!! What would be nice now is that when you disband a unit...it goes into this unit pool that can be recruited but retains it's experience.
