    Default will France burn again???

I just started this topic of curiosity about what you folks think. An friend of us(he's French) comes to pay us a visit. We have spoken about various thing but at most he's aware of public urests like it happened in recent past in major cities. He said that first and foremost France should tight her borders to immigrants especially those from Marocco, Algier and alike. Second thing he mentioned is to exceed Police power and rights. For me the most interesting was when Jean said that sooner or later France will wash away the dirt that covers her - for a while I thought I was looking at Robespierre incarnated.
So btw will subs of major France cities burn anytime soon - I think it's possible.

WOW, and this racist is your friend? (or didn't he mean it the way I think he did?)

    Yes.
Riots in French suburbs are nothing new, and they won't go away until the problems there are solved and that will take a lot of time (decades rather than years).
And if the French politicians turn their backs to the suburbs again then it's going to take even longer.

So your friend thinks that by stopping immigrants from entering France, it will stop the riots that had mostly FRENCH born people in them? He is racist and he is rambling incoherently and not even recognizing the problems in the country, although I myself have read only little bits of it, but I doubt that closing the borders would help.

That's got to be a minority opinion. But then again, given the history of Europe, maybe this kind of racism and ethnic bigotry will resolve itself into a party, and that party will rise to prominence. I'd doubt it. Many Americans like to think of Europeans as vastly ahead of the U.S. in terms of tolerance and toleration. It would be sad if we discovered that the spirit of Hitler is far stronger than is the spirit of Voltaire or Rousseau.
Of the House of Wilpuri, with pride. Under the patronage of the most noble Garbarsardar, who is the bomb-digety.

    Already happened.
The extreme-right Front National is the 2nd biggest party in France.
But I doubt they will ever reach a majority.

Still, many European countries have extreme-right parties.
They have their supporters, but the majority would never vote for such a party.
The idea is scary but I think in reality they aren't a big threat.

fact is, a presidential election is as much voting for a man, as voting for a party or a political program. And as much as I despise him, I have to admit that J-M Le Pen is rather above most other politician in the arena, on a pure perfomance point of view, a true consumate Tribun. When he is gone, things won't be as easy for the FN.

You europeans needs to learn moderation! Your left wing parties are waaaay to left and your right wing parties are waaaay to the right.

Excuse me? Since when is the labour party far right or left? The Conservatives? Lib Dems? The BNP is the only far-right party I cn think of in Britain, and thats because I've only heard of five, the last being the Green party.
I disagree that the far-rightists are worrying, many of their policies are perfectly sound, at least compared to the left-wingers. Although I support central rather then rightists, I'd prefer them to leftist parties.
France will not burn, it will smoulder, it has been since the first revolution and the first republic, the french seem to have habit of overthrowing goverments and then protesting the one they had just set up. There are more strikes in france then most other places I know of.

That is right. Since 1789 France has had:
    1 Absolute Monarchy
    2 Constitutional Monarchies
    2 Empires
    5 Republics
    1 Puppet State

That is 11 governments in 217 years, on average France changes government every 19.7 years...

That is including all the governments between the fall of the monarchy and the rise of Napoleon into one government.
