Also, what better way to follow up a post from someone named "TheCataphract" than to post a bunch of pictures...of cataphracts. Parthian ones to be precise, plus the Parthian general's bodyguard (which seems identical except for their weilding of composite bows and maces instead of lances).

Some screenshots from my Macedon H/H campaign.

If this is not Close Victory, then i don't know what is. Last seconds were like out of James Bond movie and i wasn't sure how its gonna end until seeing the final result screen. Was defence of Nikaia against superior Hayastan force including cataphracts.



Along with the last survivors, 40ish spartans were the MVPs of the battle with 1:5 killratio and holding the line against cataphracts and masses of enemy infantry for tens of minutes along with group of phalangitai. Sometimes you dont need 300 of these badasses, around 40 can be enough. Next temple upgrade in Sparta will be dedicated to these guys. And from now on ill buy every spartan unit that is available there regardless of costs and upkeep.

Casualties so harsh after battle my city was left empty.




Around 700 pure ranged kills inflicted in this river defence battle, which is rare in this mod considering how high defence values most units have. Catapult racked up 288 casualties with fireballs in middle of massed enemy ranks crossing the river. AI helped me out by getting tad undecided if it should just charge across or hesitate for a while. Other AI army took long time to come from behind me, so had plenty of time to deal with the first one across river.

I have around 45 regions, almost a million mnai in the bank and a scary number of troops - only two field armies at a time, though. I still manage to earn 15-25k mnai per turn.

Because money sitting on your account isn't doing anything. I was making 25k minai per turn at best before those hostilities with Seleucids, Ptolemai and Hayastan started, and i was still hitting down to 0-5k range at end of every turn as all it went to construction so that id get even more per turn.

Now im down to 15k per turn while the campaigns for Egypt and Babylonia are ongoing with good success. Once hostilities are over ill try to again turtle for a while and build up infrastructure and buildings instead of saving my money.

Partially it's also habit ive learned to do while playing Stainless Steel 6.1 - 6.4 where you get pirate event taking some of your money whenever you got more than 50k, so ive learned to use it to increase my per turn income and city building levels rather than store it. But in the end, i rather see well built nice cities, than uncle scrooge level sea of coins.
