    Default How do you turn off banners

    Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but could some kind soul please advise how to turn off banners. Having all those banners must have an effect on performance and it is also a wee bit confusing in the heat of battle.

    Also having a unit of seventy peasant archers carrying six or seven large banners is not very realistic IMHO.

    If someone can post instructions here or even PM the details to me I would be gratefull.

    Thankee muchness.

    did't check with the M2TW demo... so I might be RTW, and I guess it's the same with M2TW, you must go to preferences and change show_banners from true to false

    there is a config file in the demo main folder, I can't remind the name correctly because I'm at work...
    in this file (If I remember good is a .cfg) there will be a string:

    SHOW_BANNERS = TRUE

    bring it to FALSE

    tell me if you don't find it because I can't remember correctly

    Medieval 2 preference.cfg. is the file
    You just open that file with wordpad and then remove the 1 and add the 0 instead.

    See, i really like the banners, i think they add a nice touch to the battles, especially with all the variety in them.

    Oh, and i dont mind that they stick out of peoples heads, otherwise you'd have to have all sort of complicated scripting to have a soldier in the unit hold them as the number varies depending on what upgrades a unit has.

    I quite like them but don't have option to remove the stupid green circles as my .cfg is not complete (re-downloading to fix the 10:25:50.843 [system.io] [warning] open: preferences/keys.dat is missing,10:25:51.453 [system.rpt] [error] Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.)

    I like the banners, too...very "Kingdom of Heaven"-ish. But, I do wish they would fade or turn invisible when you zoomed up on the unit.

    Well I love how they look and move in the wind but unfortunately they are slightly in the way.
    Compared to RTW I'm sad to remove these

    Yes very good idea and already implemented so far as I know to RTW so why not again?
