Default South Park send Steve Irwin to Hell

Just found this off the AOL newspage:

QUOTE ''South Park's creators have provoked outrage by sending Steve Irwin to hell in the latest episode of the cartoon.

In the show, the animated Irwin goes to a 'Hell on Earth' party with a stingray sticking out of his bleeding chest.

Hundreds of guests turn up at the party dressed as dead celebrities including Princess Diana, the rapper Notorious B.I.G. and Hitler. But Satan receives complaints from his guests that someone is inappropriately dressed up as Steve Irwin.

The devil confronts the Australian TV presenter and asks him to leave but Irwin insists he is not dressed up and it really is him - come back from the dead. Eventually Satan believes him but he is kicked out anyway - because he is not in fancy dress.

A spokesman told London's Metro newspaper: "South Park has been pushing people's buttons for more than 10 years. It has offended people in the past and probably will again. Regular watchers would not be shocked." END QUOTE

I gotta say Ive always defended South PArk but even I dont think Ill be watching this episode. I mean the guys wife and daughter are obviously still greeving and sending him to hell with a stingray sticking out? Come on that's just shock TV and really is sinking low.

I thought the whole Jesus taking a dump on the USA flag was inappropriate in Cartoon Wars Part 2 during the Easter weekend, but I didn't end up finding that too bad at all. Keep in mind, Irwin (or at least a character that's supposed to be identified as Irwin, can't remember) was killed in an earlier episode after falling on spinning helicopter blades.

So, I won't judge it until I see it, I'm sorry to say. I know it's in bad taste, but that's what I've been doing for as long as I've been watching South Park. You know that Matt and Trey just do this for a laugh, regardless of where said laugh comes from.

Can you believe these spastics whining about this? Do you think any mercy will be shown to such humourless grumbling letter-to-the-editor-writing finger-waving nonces even so much as five years from now? People will look back with contempt, and most of all at the pathetic dog **** sucking journalists and reporters who repeat and capitalise on it to get their pathetic 2-minute fix of attention from moral-hypocrisy in its purest form.

It's a joke. Steve Irwin was a funny guy and would have found it funny, especially since he featured in an earlier episode of South Park which helped promote his media-image as an over-enthusiastic death-wished loony (Crikey - now, I'm going to stick my thumb up this crocodile's arse! / Cartman - Sweet!). South Park has used the joke of how easy it appears to be go to hell in so far as religion is concerned many times - in one episode everyone who wasn't a Mormon and made the wrong choice of religion went to hell (Sorry folks, the correct answer was 'Mormon', yes, 'Mormon', okay? / Everyone: Awww!) - in the South Park movie George Burns and Ghandi were both in Hell, as was Kenny the little boy whose only offence had been to miss church one Sunday.

They are making fun of religion, not Steve Irwin - the joke is that he quite obviously ISN'T in Hell?

Do you get that, spazzers-of-the-world united out there in la-la-land? Duuuhhh...wuhhh? Why do we even tolerate these people?

Wooaahh calm down. All I was saying is it seems a bit soon to be doing a cartoon version of a guy who died just a few months ago. And it hasnt been that long since his funeral.

And if you had read my post I said id always defended South Park. But this time its not taking the **** out of some Iraqui dictator or some 2000 yr old carpenter, this is a guy who has just died and whos death is still vivid in the minds of a lot of people.

And did I say I wanted it banned? Did I say id be writing to the creators?
No, all I said was I wouldnt ne watching this episode myself.

Next time think before you speak.

I did. I wasn't talking about you, but the vermin who have reported and announced 'outrage' over it - the way they always do - even though there would BE no 'outrage' if they hadn't announced that there was.

In South Park almost everybody goes to Hell, only a few Mormons go to Heaven.
So sending Irwin to Hell isn't offensive.

Maybe it's bad taste to put somebody in your cartoon who just died.
But, as said before, his character appeared in South Park before his death as well, so it would actually be strange to leave him out. (they put all the other dead characters in there)
And it wasn't as if his character did anything shocking.
All they did was point out how tasteless it is to wear a Steve Irwin costume, and then he gets send home for not wearing a costume.

People really shouldn't be this sensitive.

Mr Irwin seems to have been sort of a God in Australia, so worst case scenario, they invade. And a sucessful invasion would mean tha the US fell under a country:

Consisting of a melting pot immigrant population mainly from the west, that has all but eradicated the countrys immigrant population. Formerly a part of the British empire, its population are sceptical of non-western immigrants, are ruled by a neo-con, didn't sign the Kyoto agreement, are sceptical of intelectiulaism, like barbequing, beer and cowboy hats, plus they have a soft spot for herding cattle.

So, an eventual incident because of this event won't change much. Who cares what the Southpark dudes do anyways.

The creators of South Park make fun of people who are uptight about things like this...
Whenever you do something like South Park, you're always going to offend someone.

South Park offends everyone equally so if anyone gets offended by something specific they say that is their problem. Anyone who watches the show knows no topic, no person from Jesus to Mohammed are fair game...someone like Steve Irwin certainly deserves no better. Besides the whole joke of his appearance is that guest were outraged that someone dressed as Irwin with a stingray spike thru his chest until they realize it really is Irwin who showed up for the halloween party then Satan kicks him out for not having a costume
