    Default Stutter during Sieges?

    Patch 14 here obviously...
Is there anyone experiencing siege stutter? Despite the promised patch that claims to fix most of the stuttering, it still occurs a lot especially when ladders are being docked and when multiple units force their way through the gates

Yeah I think siege battles are always prone to more lag than any other form of engagement. Presumably this is due to the additional building/wall models which are not present in regular battles. Unfortunately, the stuttering problems are pretty much universal (as in they affect people playing all mods or just vanilla) and for some reason they also affect barbarian cities much more. I don't know what CA changed in patch 14, but the type of lag you get on siege AI is certainly different from what it used to be. All the same, it lagged before and it still does.

Yes had it in a couple of sieges during my iceni campaign. CA needs to sort this one out once and for all.

Thats there bad pathfinding code and they can tweak what they want if they not change parts of the code i believe we will always keep that stutter.

Yep, the path finding is abysmal, ever notice how when you select a unit to move off a wall they move the wrong direction at first then double back, uh.....

stutter is still present when you have large forces attacking. The problem here is the paths. When alot of units rush through to go into the city it lags the units. not too much of a deal when attacking though, you dont have to put all units to the same part of a wall.

Yeah it's a real pain in the ass. Haven't found any real work around for it either. Luckily though! Sieges are usually stupidly easy so you just get things rolling then zoom into the furthest corner of the map on 3x speed and make something to eat. Come back, /win.

It's an issue with a flood of data down to pathfinding that the engine can't handle. It was well documented back on Empire. It used to be an fps drop but instead now the game slows down instead to take the load off the cpu which I honestly think sucks for those people who want to just get battles over and done with.

On the bright side, stuttering is significantly less when attacking cities, because we're not constantly spamming orders to our units trying to figure out the walls/buildings, and the AI remains largely stationary.

So I essentially just autoresolve siege defense to spare myself the headache. I play on the assumption that if the AI actually made it to my walled city, they deserve it until I take it back .
