Your favourite faction and why?

I just wanted to create a discussion (sorry if this is the wrong place but I thought the premise of the thread would be correct for the board).


So I just wondered if people here could perhaps list a faction they like (say for example Ostermark) and why they are your favourite. For example utilising their cavalry or just something in particular you like about a faction. Just wanted to see everyone's ideas for your favourite Good and Bad factions.

There is similar thread already I think, but Ostland is my favourite from the first version of the mod Challenging, nice location (DE, Kislev, Chaos, Empire), some scripted battles are really cool, and love theyr units/theme.

That's got to be M&M for me. Love their lore and the Wolfpriests. I'm a ranged junkie so love pounding the enemy from afar. That's why will see my armies contain lots of artillery, mages and other ranged units

I'm kind of torn between Ostermark, Stirland and Hochland. Ostermark and Stirland mainly because of the Black Guard/Knights of the Raven and because you get to fight vampires almost all the time (Vampires are the most overrated thing ever to be included in any fantasy universe, period. Werewolves rule, period.).
Hochland because, well...gunsgunsguns. Plus it's kind of an underdog sitting there right next to mighty Middenheim (same goes for Stirland, both are pretty poor and undeveloped provinces of the Empire).

I would say either Orks and Goblins or Chaos ( Khorne in particular ).

Chaos has very unique and awesome looking units and I really like the whole feeling with the End Times event.
Although it doesn't feel quiet as I'd like to, but it's a mod so it has it's faults and limitations.

Orks have always been my favorite since I've been a child and played with the Warhammer miniatures. They're pretty hard to play in this mod but you get awesome
fight with Dwarves, stunty's and well everything you come across.

I'm a much bigger Vampire fan. Leading hordes of the undead against the men of the empire, and seeing your minions fight to the last. Not to mention the gap of strength and power between a Vampire and Imperial solider. With Blood Dragons being in a league of their own.

Having a look at them they do seem quite unique to me though, and they have that god send of an ability where none of their units will rout. I imagine zombies can be brilliant meatshields. I also think it allows you to perhaps take on stronger armies than your ow due to the morale never dropping.

s it okay if you could share what you like about Ostermark and why? Just wondered as they interested me. When I try them I seem to overstretch my armies trying to take on the 2 beastmen.

I call a crusade on Beastmen Temple 2nd turn attack the town to the right but then by that time 2 full stacks appear.

Well to start I must say that its becouse they are nothing like other Empire provinces.They are obsessed with death,they are not shiney and fluffy,they are tough and their enemies fear them.Their belifs makes them almost fearless on the field of battle.Ostermark is the home of my favorite knightly order.Position on map,having border with Sylvana on the south,pass of Karak Kadrin to the east and always dangerous border with Kislev to the north.Usualy you are in constant fighting with all the "evil" factions exept Dark Elves.
I always call crusade against Darkenhof right before I am about to take Mordheim.While they mess with Sylvania I take 2 small towns and later Darkenhof if crusade did not already.

-Sylvania, Blood Knights and Black Grail Knights recruitable in the edb, they are the real tanks in the game

I will agree with you there. I have been on the receiving end of many a Black Grail Knight charge playing as Ostermark.

high elves are my favourite because im a heavy infantry guy so i was never very fond of using alot of archers but they really made me see what good archers can do..the fact that lothern seaguard use bow and arrows as well really adds to the death u can rain from above..theres really nothing like seeing a big enemy army lose a nice percentage of its men before the battle even starts..dragon princes and swordmasters are awesome as well..nice starting position fighting dark elves and chaos from the start

honorable mention to khorne and reikland: khorne has a really great diversity in units and i love the fact their always so angry..the only thing i dont like is that u spend half the game fighting other chaos factions..i like the good vs evil aspect, chaos fighting empire, high vs dark elves, dwarves vs orks

i like reikland as well. empire factions are more or less the same but i like the reiksguard because u also have the dismounted and halberdier kind..empire factions have the largest variety of units to choose from and all the mercenaries and special event units make it even better

I've played only dwarf and Nordland.

For now I prefer the latter, they are attacked continuously by all sides and when you've just repelled an attack from the sea the Storm of Chaos comes, they are the province which will be hit the hardest by the horde (middlehim has a better position)

If you want to play the hardest Empirial faction I think you should take them, there are other provinces which are poorer but they compensate with their better position.

I've not played other factions, but in order of preference i would choose: High Elves (and I would play without taking Marienburg to make the game harder), Kislev, Khorne (I like more Tzeench but it's too overpowered).

Yeah if you like a challenge the Elves are pretty hard to play. No economy from the start and will slowly increase. ( very slowly )
You'll fight some hard scripted battles and have to face a lot of strong enemies. And don't forget you can only recruit units in the summer and only in Port cities.

Kislev is pretty easy tho. Chaos is fighting each other in the beginning so no worries about them. ( Exception of some scripted events )
Your economy is pretty stable once you take your settlements and have your merchants in the right places. Your ranged units are quiet capable in melee combat so take that in mind.

Khorne is medium as the hardest part is defeating Tzeench. After that, little resistance will be shown. ( Deamonettes can be a pain tho. )
Biggest downside is expensive units that don't really compensate for their expenses.

i want to try Dwarves and Reikland next. not sure about High Elves as I don't like the recruiting only in port cities, a bit harsh (although a great, unique addition)

I have not played Reikland but I thinks it's quite easy since you have a very strong position and Marienburg very near.

About Dwarf:

Most important units: warrior with shields (when you can, swap them for Longberads with shields and Ironbreakers), mortars (four or three units for stack), shooting infantry, miners (very strong missile attack, use them behind your warrior to shoot incoming units, they have a very high impact on enemy morale and can destroy entire units with a few shoots), Slayers (very good attack and they never break).

The problem with dwarves is that you have to execute always the same tactic: shoot form afar with mortars and wait until the enemy comes in hand to hand combat, sometimes you will have to advance and assault the enemy on a strong position, they are very good at siege combat since they have very good infantry.

Their army can suffer very bad from cavalry, they don't have pikes or spears so they will always take heavy casualties from a charge, their warriors can plant stakes but if the enemy doesn't come you'll have some problem (usually I shoot the cavalry since I know that I can deal quite well against almost every infantry), their army is also very slow so you must think very much ahead before when you want to charge or move your units.

Their position is also very scattered, they have three blocks isolated from each other, south west, south east, north, almost each of your fortress will be sieged by scripted armies with two or one turn of advise, also you are surrounded by enemies and you have to help the empire especially against vampires (which are near one of your fortress, here you have a very good general, his guard units is of miners and he has a special ability which stops two or three enemy units for some seconds, it's quite handy when you have a cavalry charging one of your missile units or if you want to shoot some more).

The first thing to do is to take Karak Varn, is is near your capital and the fortress near Sylvania, in the north you have just one fortress (Karak Karin), which must: defend from Orcs and Beastmen, create one or two stack and go north through a strict passage in the mountain to take goblins and Chaos Dwarf fortresses, the bad thing about this trip is that the passage if very strict so you'll have to fight every army you find, I had to go and come back at least two or three times to conquer the entire passage. To the south the border prince may be a threat, if they don't ally with you they may as well attack.

I played on H/H, and I've found the campaign quite easy, I've lost some empire cities for lack of armies sometimes but I was able to destroy Goblin, Vampires and Chaos Dwarves, past turn 100 I was fighting in the north wastes (were there is one of our fortress to retake), in the empire to help them retake their cities, and in the badlands destroying thousand of orcs after taking the fortes in the mountains.

I had fun playing them since I had some hard decision to make and some hard battle, in the most epic I had 1300 dwarf against two stack of vampires (more than 4000 fighters), they had blood knights, von carsten knights, (both on horse and on foot), graveguards, shooting units and zombies, one of the generals was Krell, I won after playing at least three or four times, miners where crucial as well as other shooting units, after the first wave the vampires had only their zombies (750 of them) and I had only three shooting units and some miners, (I had left only less than 200 or 300 warriors and the most part were missile units), since I couldn't defeat them in hand to hand I started running and shooting with my missile units, zombies are the only unit slower than dwarf XD, I had other epic battles in the north against Chaos Dwarf hordes.

It was a fun campaign but right know I wouldn't play them again, I'm playing Nordland VH/VH and it's much more difficult, it look the entire Chaos horde as decided to attack my capital in the same turn.

If you want another epic faction I would go for Middlehim, the Chaos horde goes straight to their capital.

I love Sylvania. I adore classical, Dracula-style vampiric monsters and necromancy. Their gameplay is also very unique and interesting.
Cultists of Slaanesh are also among my favored, due to my longstanding relationship with the Prince of Excess in 40k.
I am sure that the Skaven will also be a favourite, once 1.6 rolls around.
