    Default Tech problem - 3-10 second freezes during battles

    i5-3570k (not overclocked) 3.4ghz 16gb ram, 6870 radeaon 1gb.

    Turned down all the graphics to low or off.
    Unlimited memory allocation OFF.

    Strategy map is fine, but during battles game freezes for 3 to 10 seconds freezes.
    I tried the code turn off turn on trick, seemed to help a little but not much.

    This is during first battle - 10000 enemies, 5000 own attempted port capture. Tried to turn down unit size but i guess it's hardcoded into the mod.

    Mod looks excellent but in this configuration battles are simply not playable at all

    I tried reading though this forum and general troubleshooting tips, if I missed something i'm sorry.

    The first question would be have you ever had similar problems in vanilla Rome with the same number of units?

    Second of all, what unit sizes are you using?

    To be honest, I think most people will get lag of some sort in a settlement battle involving 10,000 soldiers. With that in mind, do you get lag in other sorts of battles to?

    With 16GB of RAM you should definitely let that ON everytime! It may solve your problem, because your CPU/GPU seems to be decent.

    I have a worst computer and except in extreme cases (as Leving said, mostly when there is tons of units involved, and if its a settlement battle, or both) I dont have freezes. Its not very fluid either, but thats my problem: I prefer quality for screenshots and good aerial view




    What also worked for me, was putting "shadows" and "unit details" always a notch below the other settings, and never at extreme.
    Also do not activate vegetation alpha.

    Here's my personal settings, I advise you to try and see if it works with your personal unit size.

    walled city battles cause hugh lag when the enemy enters with all units. but that is only when they have alot of units.

    @Butan: Particle Effects cause hugh lags when there is alot of smoke, i prefer setting particle effect to low because i dont really care about good looking smoke etc.

    Thanks for tip, my settings are set in stone since 6 months so I barely change them; but now that you say it, when I zoom in smoke it becomes a FPS lag fest, I'll try to decrease.

    I suspect most lagging in the in the game is caused by the unit path finding AI getting confused and burning up tons of CPU time trying to figure out how to get around an obstacle. Tonight I had a siege battle suddenly slow to a crawl when I knocked out 2 sections of wall and the enemy units trapped on the wall couldn't seem to make up their mind as to which way to run.

    Set unlimited memory on. Everything else is set to lowest parameter possible.
    I can't get unit sizes lower ( i guess DeI forces ultra size and it can't be overwritten).

    Still lags badly. I tried pausing it when issuing orders to make sure that CPU isn't overloaded with graphics when pathfinding is calculated. Still same thing. Darn thing freezes even in the pause mode.

    Something is fishy big time...

    as for vanila rome - i never had a battle this size, but maybe i'll try...

    update: in vanila rome: 20k rome, vs 20k athens. Port assault with ultra units. Jumpy but playable. No freezes.
    Wasn't pretty but at least it ran.
