AMD Fusion
Link
For those too lazy to click the link AMD has announced it's first cpu/gpu merger chip. Basically they will produce a chip that does the both the cpu's and gpu's job at silicon level, that will (according to AMD) be the size of a normal cpu.
Ambitious to say the least even if it was expected.
If AMD pulls this off, and manges to create a chip that is both a powerful cpu and a powerful gpu the landscape of computer hardware will be drastically changed....however they would have to completely redesign cpu and gpu technology to do it effectively.
Personally I don't think a power cpu+gpu will be something we see for at least 5 years.
Thoughts?

Re: AMD Fusion
Gpu's grow bigger, faster and hotter all the time, so I think cpu and gpu cannot perform that well together. It would work well with normal office systems though. No need to buy them separately..
High-end gaming systems.. I don't think so. But we'll see.

Re: AMD Fusion
Looks like Nvidia needs to ask Intel or IBM for a good go with the X86 production while AMD is busy with its own design.

Re: AMD Fusion
Well this might work for low end systems that dont really need good Graphics, even mid range gamers. But us high end performance junkies will probably still need sperate cards for years to come.
