Will those women units be mixed units of men/women of purely women?

I dont think except for some elite units of 100% women, cultures which enabled women to fight made them fight in separate groups.

As long as they're cool rather than really good I have no problem with them.

In Rome II you can have gladiators as soldiers. Realistic? Not unless its a slave revolt and even then not particularly accurate. Is it cool and fun? Yeah no doubt. Female soldiers are in the same category. They add to the game but they aren't the most realistic feature.

and woman as gladiators? No.. the only times they were in the arena was during executions.. but they were butchered by gladiators, they didn't got an honor to die with sword in hands... Ancient society was brutal by today's standards...
Um no, they had women gladiators. Its well documented. Women can fight. Not as well as men on average because they have less physical ability but they can.

So, the only really significant part of this update is Suebi roster expansion.

Anyone remembers this article? Been waiting for this for ages ( expected this to come with the game on release ).
Glad females are finally here, suprised though by the lack of a "screeching women" type unit. Maybe I read too much into the short article.
Guess screetching women might have needed extra animations? Dont know how they worked back in Rome I days.
But I guess someone will throw a screetching women mod together in no time.

There should be women legionaries too! They are depicted on Trajan's Column extensively.

Someone who has experience with modding; how hard would it be now to add female generals? Would it be possible to add a rarechance to get a female General, for Barbarians?

We already looked at that, but there are issues. It would have to be completely Woman Unit (bodyguards aswell), since engine limitations would be in voices (unit cant have female and men voice). Campaign model, general unit - all possible, but cant be mixed men/female in a unit without issues.

Do the female-specific models use their own skeleton or the standard one?

    Thanks.
I hope you ( or another modder ) can put something together; I for one could live with Boudicca having a male voice I guess^^

why so much obsession about Boudica? Ok, she united the clans, but didn't managed to use them anyhow good.. her only achievement was to take all fighting capable men and have them slaughtered by Romans.. not very inspiring leader if you ask me...

Most of what you say is true. Now while the story of Boudica is fascinating and I enjoy reading how it came about, she was not some kind of brilliant general and least of all a feminist icon.

It's quite simple, the Romans treated her and her family shamefully and she got mad about it and energised the rest of the demoralised men to do something about it. That's what made her different. Most women would've just given up and taken it as another piece of crap in life, but she didn't... perhaps other circumstances helped too, but we are not privy to those details.

Anyway, her fervour obviously got all the men together (there was obviously no man of leadership quality at that point) and they attacked. Most probably by fluke they overwhelmed the first romans who never expected such an attack and there the whole thing rolled on, gaining more momentum. I'll bet it was much like Joan of Arc for the men, new, amazing and surely she was blessed by the gods.

Let's not forget that she showed absolutely no mercy to the civilians men, women and children of towns sacked. If you think she'd make it easier on you cos you're female, forget it (google why but not if you're sqeamish).

Finally, when it came to real battle strategy and tactics it was more of a simple straight attack and with Suetonius, now ready to fight, well, it was all over. Truth is, no one should lose a battle when they have nigh 60000 men versus around 6000.

That said, if Boudicca had been schooled in military tactics and strategy early on, the outcome might've been very different.

Actullay, she neither united the clans, or used them in a rebellion...she didn't exist.

There's only one ancient written reference to her - Heroditus, I believe, who wrte his histories forty years after the "rebellion" was supposed to have taken place and who wasn't there, but was tiold about it by the cousin of someone who sold fish in the market of Londinuim at the time (I exagerate, but you get my point).

There's zero archaelogocal record about Boudica. Nothing to say a woman led the tribes, nothing to say that women fought alongisde the men, nothing to even say that a rebellion took place. The Roman city under London burnt down at roughly that time and archaeologists suppose that it was burnt down by rebels....but they have no proof or even idea who the rebels might be.

Well rather than bashing anyone, like most seem to do, just wanted to say thanks for the free content. Will check it out tonight.

As for historical accuracy, I don't know much about Roman history, but I've studied feudal Japanese history a bit. I'm guessing it's somewhat similar in occurance.
Although rare, there are several reports of (trained) female warriors during this time. Mostly individuals (Tomoe Gozen, Hangaku Gozen, Komatsu-dono, Yamamoto Yaeko,...), but also some groups (Joshigun unit led by Nakano Takeko).
As a last line of defence in a castle though, it's much more frequent though (not necessarily trained). If you can choose between being sold/raped/... or die fighting I think it's an easy choice.

You also need to know that being a female warrior was most likely taboe during these periods, so a lot might never have been recorded. Also certain records almost certainly got lost as well.

disappointing. As some said, they better make RPG games now. Orcs are the only ones missing from this game.

There were women gladiators. There were female soldiers. Were they normal? No. Are they normal in this game? No. So don't worry about it. If having gladiators in combat is okay some of them should be women.

No, there were women who took up arms in situations of emergency, and maybe some nomadic tribes who had females fight alongside their men.

There were not 'female' soldiers. I have never heard of the Lusitani or the Iberians using women in combat. The Romans sure as hell would not have.

I'm not going to whig out about the Scythian women, especially if they are free. DLC for fantasy units that modders could have done? Don't try and pretend this makes any sense, or actually adds to the game in any way. I have tried to be fair with CA, but every time they take a step forward, it's two steps back with nonsense like this.

Seeing as how the most of the previous posters seem to be against this content, I'll say thanks CA for the Free LC. And yep, consider the DLC bought.

I already said that Romans using female gladiators is as plausible as Romans using male gladiators because neither would happen.

Play a different game if you don't like it. I wouldn't miss the loss of anyone in this sub forum from the community.

Meh, again giving iberian inspired units (hairstyle, falcata) to the lusitanians (a celtic faction).

For the zillionth time (if anyone at CA read these posts they are obviously ignoring them all):
