    Default Carthage is fixed!

In vanilla, and in previous versions of DEI , AI Carthage was a weak, hopeless nation, usually reduced to insignificance within the first twenty turns by an attack from Syracuse. It never expanded, only shrunk, and had trouble forming good armies, or doing anything useful with them. Bit this time.

I am now up to turn ninety in my game as Rome, and I was happily surprised to see that AI Carthage not only survived, but controls large areas in Africa and Spain. They withstood the usual attack from Syracuse, losing Sardinia and Corsica, but kept everything else. I conquered Syracuse, and then took Lilybaeum from the Carthaginians. When they offered to make peace, I did so, then explored their African and Spanish lands with spies. I found a number of strong, well balanced armies, as well as the usual fleets. Taking them our will not be easy.

Congratulations, DEI team, you have fixed a huge problem with the game, and I am really enjoying it!

Yeah, my last campaign I saw Carthage lose, then retake lilybaem. It was awesome! Syracuse no longer knocks them out.

In my Game Carthage lost Sicily and Carthage to Syracuse and then massasilia (Their Client, not sure if the english name is correct this way) Conquered Carthage City Lilbaeum and Syrakuse
A lil awkward when besieging Carthage to not have Carthage troops in there with Carthage still existing

But at least Syracuse got beaten back. It would also be nice if Syracuse and Carthage wouldn't be at war always from turn one on. Sadly Dresden did not find where to edit the starting hate values till now.

I am not sure if the hate between Carthage and Syracuse is a problem. They fought many wars, and truly did hate each other. In fact, Agathocles, tyrant of Syracuse, invaded Africa and almost took Carthage not very long before the first Punic War.

And in my game, Syracuse did not declare war on Carthage on turn one, but waited until turn four. Not too much of a difference, but at least it was not turn one!

In my first ever DEI campaign Carthage when on a rampage through Iberia and up into Gaul. They did lose lilybaeum and Karalis, but they were certainly a major power. The problem with syracuse is that on occasion carthage will send tons of troops to sicily to defeat an army or reconquer lilybaeum or something, but they never leave enough to defend and eventually just get pushed out when they move everything away.

With the Carthago Nova client state of Carthage, it was stronger. I guess Carthago had no need to bother with iberia. I know that alot dont like Carthago Nova but I was happy how they performed together

Historically, during the start time Syracuse was allied to Rome and did fight the Carthaginians. They had been rivals for a long time. However in the second Punic war a faction lead by two brothers who were anti-Roman took control of the city and declared war on Rome. Hopefully the political system can be developed to that extent but probably not. I do agree that Syracuse shouldn't be so close to Rome. They were primarily looking out for self interests, control of Sicily.

Are you using the beta submod that limits recuritment based on the regions you own? So far Syracuse isn't lol stomping Carthage in my Ptolemaic campaign so far.
