In vanilla, and in previous versions of DEI , AI Carthage was a weak, hopeless nation, usually reduced to insignificance within the first twenty turns by an attack from Syracuse. It never expanded, only shrunk, and had trouble forming good armies, or doing anything useful with them. Bit this time.
I am now up to turn ninety in my game as Rome, and I was happily surprised to see that AI Carthage not only survived, but controls large areas in Africa and Spain. They withstood the usual attack from Syracuse, losing Sardinia and Corsica, but kept everything else. I conquered Syracuse, and then took Lilybaeum from the Carthaginians. When they offered to make peace, I did so, then explored their African and Spanish lands with spies. I found a number of strong, well balanced armies, as well as the usual fleets. Taking them our will not be easy.
Congratulations, DEI team, you have fixed a huge problem with the game, and I am really enjoying it!
