Wonder why i cant change the gamma/brightness

My system is win8.1, i just find that there's no effect if i change the gamma in the option menu or the preference.cfg. I didn't get that problem in both win8 and win7, is that because of the system? Anyway, i will be really appreciated if anyone can help me deal with this problem. (Actually I can change the gamma for the first time i open the game in my current system, but after i quit and get in again, the gamma will change back to the default(which i suppose to be) and i won't be able to change that anymore)

Why change it? What's wrong with the colors that come with the game?
AMD's Catalyst Control Center and Nvidia Control Panel have program profiles that can be set individually. I don't remember seeing gamma controls in there but you may try.

the defult is too bright for me, and I cant see any gamma control in my nvidia control panel
