Does anyone know if the Templars are exclusive to any faction or are they only available under certain conditions such as a crusade or with an agreement with the Templar guild (sp?)

I think its going to be handled like in MTW1, i.e. crusader units only being available for crusades.
The various orders of knights available will probably depend on where they are recruited, i.e. Templars in France, Teutonics in Germany, Hospitallers in Italy, and Santiagos in Spain.
templars could be recruited in all catholic factions if memory does not fail me.
Im hoping that unlike the original you can recruit your own crusader knights (templars, hospitallers, tuetons) during a crusade and not have to rely on the computer giving you only access to one unit per crusade.

Trust No One!
A few get templar, a few get teutonic, a few get santiago, a few get more than one.
maybe they will just pop out of your crusade army or can recruit like mercs in rtw.
there will be in the crusade army

When you assign a army to do a crusade you will be able to hire them as mercs.Originally Posted by Lord Comnenus
I think you can also hire them through guilds which you will get if you succesfully do some crusades, though i am not sure.

Hmmm, I think any catholic faction that managed to set foothold in Levant should have ability to recruit Templars and Hospitallers from their tech tree. It only should be allowed in cities of Levant under control of this faction. HRE and Spain should have ability to recruit Teutonic Knights and Santiago from the year they were establish regardless of place.
I am hoping I can recruit/build/run into, some Knights of Malta.![]()

But wouldnt that mean you would be recruiting for example Syrians as Knights Templars or Hospitallers, cant say that would really be historicly accurate. I would prefer to have to ship the knights all the way from europe to reinforce Outremer.
And I think Hospitaller should be avaliable to Italians, France and England. Templars to France, England and possibly Scotland. Teutonics to the HRE and Santiago to Spain (and Portugal?) Im by no means an expert lol but I thats just how I wouldve have thought it would have been. =)
There are guild hall buildings that you build in your cities so you can recruit these units. Maybe all the catholic factions get Templars, but only Italians get Hospitallers, and HRE gets Teutonics, and the Spain types get Santiago. We know that Sicily gets both Templars and Hospitallers. But what would be a special unit name for England and France?
I think Hospitallers look the best because they have fully black armor. They are also better than Templars. So all these special units are probably better than Templars.
Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
You need to get the guild for them. Probably need to complete a successful crusade or something, build a guildhall, then they are recuitable. Hopefully when you get Grandmaster Guilds you get something extra nice, with stag horns on its helmet.
