Aztecs vs Muslims?

Will it be possible to conquer the new world as a muslim or ortodox faction? It would be really cool/weird to conquer the aztecs as Egypt!!!

Yes you can go to the new world as any faction.
Atleast last I heard and I see no reason for this to change.

Even stranger would be conquering the world as the Aztecs. Or are they one of those unplayable factions? If you can play them, how are they going to cross the oceans? I dont remember ever reading about Aztec warships/transports. :tooth:

I don't think the aztecs will have a proper building tree, interface or stuff like that so human players will not be able to use them. Which sucks. It would be surreal to see horde of aztec warriors charging through the Irish countryside. Crazy stuff.

But I can guarantee that a "Aztecs as a playable faction" mod will be one of the earliest mods released for M2TW. I mean, they are already in the game. I'm no modder though so I dunno.

The Aztecs are unplayable, as are the Papal States, the Golden Horde and the Timurids.

I don't really see why anybody would want to play as the Aztecs, anyway. Until the Europeans develop seaworthy ships in the late game, they can't interact with any of the other factions (and even then, they just have to wait until the Europeans come over, since they can't build seaworthy ships of their own), and they seem to have a limited unit roster (they lack any cavalry whatsoever, unless CA decided to be creative again and give them a Quetzalcoatl Guard of llama-riding slingers ).

No doubt. I mean I'm really hoping that CA did make some UI interface and building trees for the Aztecs, cuz I would totally mod in some cav for them (ahistorical I know) and increase the power of their units and butt in on the MuslimVSChristian orgy and give them both a taste of my Aztec stone clubs.

People would just mod in some ships and cavalry for the Aztecs. Its just too cool of a sight to see Aztec warriors seizing Toledo or Cairo to miss out on.

I would love to invade Europe with the Aztecs. It's just insane. Giving them ships would be easy and there's always mercenary horse to purchase in Europe.

I wouldn't mind playing the Aztecs in campaign mode, without going to europe, if the goal was to see just how long you could hold off the european invaders before the inevitable defeat.

That doesnt sound like much fun at all.

Every faction will be able to cross if they have the correct port facilities created.

I remember reading a dev blog (or something a CA guy said), and they said they tried to make the Aztecs playable, but it got too buggy. But that means they tried, and I wouldn't be surprised if they left building cards/info, tentative tech trees, and such in some files. But, on the other hand, if CA tried to make it playable but failed, it may be a very hard thing for modders to do.

you want irony? the first expeditions to the americas were actually manned by surprisingly large numbers of moorish and spanish muslim sailors. it was seen as an escape from the purges of the new spanish government and the inquisition. most sailors on the missions came from andalucia.

that seems unheard of to me. especially since adalucia is on the other side of spain and i was under the impression that the fleet set sailed from either Cadez or...yes...

its a controversial topic as you would imagine - but certainly not unherd of or difficult to find discussion of. its a very politicised issue given the nature of american/arab relations today

the theory is that at least one of the navigators, and other crew members were muslim. this is backed by the idea that he was heading to the east - where arabs already traded.

Yes the Ottoman fleet was destroyed. But the issue here is whether they had the TECHNOLOGY to building such ships. Which they did.

...and yes, they did have the technology...but not the access. i mean they could have gone through their ports in the persian gulf and around afirca, but that would take forever. and they already had access to the indies which is what the europeans really wanted--to bypass the ottoman-italian monopoly on trade from the east.
