    Default Using forts as bases

Hi guys, first post on this forum.

In my Bactria campaign I've been using forts more frequently as little bases in strategic positions especially in the mountain passages in the Caucasus . I post expendable units in those castles to act as a "defence in depth" so that my armies in settlements can be mustered.

I want to act like in real life with localised garrisons, logistic hubs and redoubts to make my Indo-Hellenic empire look more like a state at war. Lately Parthia and the Seleucid remnants are aggressively pushing those garrisons and my generals are leading armies to fight them.

My question is can my generals leading full stacks rest there to recuperate fatigue?

Also, what other neat features do you guys use for forts?

Usually I post a fort in a mountain gap (usually within the Alps, as Rome) with a single militia unit.
They are my first defence line and stop any incoming invasion while the defence army (only one for an entire "area") come to help.

All my field generals build forts in autumn so they spend the winter in a fortified position. I also do it in hopes that their health will not become affected by the bad weather. I think it works but it could just be observation bias. Perhaps someone can tell me if a general in a fort is more resilient to winter - it is an EB feature, after all, not RTW's.
