    Icon9 Slave precentage concern/question~

    Hi.

I'm currently playing a VH/N campaign as Royal Scythia and I haven't enslaved any prisoners from battles at all. Early my slave percentage was on around 4-5%, but I just noticed that almost nearly all of my settlemens are rebelling and having slave-revolts... I went and checked closely on the happiness/unhappiness list and noticed that I had nearly 50% slaves!!!

What gives?! After a minute of looking around, I also noticed that I'm trading with Odrysian Kingdom which exports slaves to me - so they've just exported slaves to me for some years up from 5% to 50%?! Is this really working as intended? This really gives me no incentive to ever want to trade with someone who exports slaves, if it's going to go up this high & this fast too boot.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks in advance~

I don't think trading in slaves shouldn't increase your actual percentage of slaves. It should just give you the slave resource which you can then use to build certain higher tier buildings.

As far as I know the only way you can increase your slave population is to capture them in the battlefield. You can also get them by sacking (I think). Whilst everyone is getting mad from slaves, you can always pick the edict to give 400% extra wealth from slaves and +2 public order. That might help.

Yes, looting and sacking cities also gives you slaves. I don't know if slaves as a trade resource actually changes the percentage.

The trade resource is completely separate from the slave mechanic. The only way to get slaves is by taking them in battle.

I would recommend using the Sell Slave edict.

Most probably you took over settlements and enslaved them this way. The new edict helps alot with that slave problem.

Thank you! I will try this new edict out - and I'm glad to hear that trading slaves won't increase my slave population. Is there any way to know how many people you'll enslave if you loot/sack a settlement? Does it say in the tool-tip? (I never noticed any number)

I think it gives you a menu at the end of the battle when you capture a city, showing the number of men you killed and the number of captives taken (so it usually depends on the size of the enemy army). Any captives you take in the battle are enslaved if you loot the city. As far as I know, the slaves are dispersed among all your provinces after that, adding to the slave population percentage.

I've noticed that the sell slaves edict massively reduces slave population so I wouldn't recommend using it for more than a turn at a time. I'm not 100% sure whether it is working as intended atm, still needs more testing.

Yeah, I can't decide if it should be a one turn thing where you make a lot and lose the slaves or if it should be a more sustained impact over time. I am leaning toward the latter.

I would agree with the latter, it would allow the player to essential fund their economy through steady enslavement. I have found that it's very effective if you lack trade partners and a well developed economy.

Perhaps reduce the income bonus but also the slave reduction.

Perhaps also reduce public order penalty from slaves when the edict is activated?

Yes, that would be great for the early part of the Sparta campaign, until you decide to betray Athens XD. Or if you're going for that "This is Total War" achievement, it would certainly help.

It should do that, if not then I will add it. Although I wonder if it should increase corruption rather than reducing it so much.

Depends on whether the income percentage per slave owned is too high. If its not then there is no need to add corruption.

Also, getting rid of slaves already decreases province unhappiness so there should not be a need to add a bonus in top of a bonus. imo
