Enemy hoplites are OP...
First battle playing as Athens against Epirus; I attack a unit of militia hoplites with 2 normal hoplites and my lodages general (swords). All three of my units are decimated whilst their militia unit still has around half strength. This is despite using inspire and having the entire unit flanked..
Playing on normal difficulty.

Re: Enemy hoplites are OP...
Hmm sounds like when hoplites were bugged when patch 14 first came out. That bug was fixed however - not sure if its reappeared or if you have an outdated version of the mod?

Re: Enemy hoplites are OP...
It is most probably because of the melee defense bonus hoplites get in phalanx mode, the AI nearly always adopts it.

Re: Enemy hoplites are OP...
You have to tell your hoplites to attack or they will get ground into dust.

Re: Enemy hoplites are OP...
considering he said that he has the whole enemy unit flanked, I assume he has told them to attack

Re: Enemy hoplites are OP...
Prior to patch 14 you could allow the enemy to engage your hoplites without actually telling them to attack a specific unit. Now, if you don't, they will get destroyed fairly easily.
I have run multiple tests of Garrison hoplites vs militia hoplites and it is a fairly even fight in all of my testing.

Re: Enemy hoplites are OP...
Not sure if it was ever fixed but there was a bug in an earlier version where the enemy hoplites constantly tried to swap into phalanx mode from charge, this resulted in them always having the charge bonus. They'd go into phalanx, charge, go back into phalanx, charge, over and over while engaged. They eat through anything you put against them unless you can get to their rear which will stop the AI trying to engage phalanx over and over.

Re: Enemy hoplites are OP...
We fixed that bug with our most recent updates. However, OP might not have the most recent version.
That bug is why we had to turn off the hoplite phalanx animation
