    Default Suebi tactics and formations

Hey guys! I am wondering if any of you have any tactics that seem to work well for you when playing as the Suebi. As for me I can see only one tactic - I use long lines and outflank my oponent, meanwile my cav hitting them from the back. Thats my usual army (I dont have elit troops yet): general-Kherunoutôz Khasþengoi; 4 units of Slokhonez and 2 of Kherunoutôz Khasþengoi (those I use to outflank); 5 units of Fulkho Frijo to hold front line (they are quite bad in this role); 4 units of Ridanz; 4 units of (AOR) Skutjanz. I start battle from deploing my army in such way (S=Fulkho Frijo, I=Slokhonez, hI=Kherunoutôz Khasþengoi, C=Ridanz, M=(AOR) Skutjanz, G=general):
    -----------S S S S S---------
    ---------hI I I I I hI-------
    ----CC M M G M M CC---

I have hard time holding center, it breaks realy easy giving me little time to move hI and M to flanks, so I must react realy fast. So Ill be pleasefull for some advice, I dont see any well working tactic exept this one as Suebi....

Well, idk if this works now in DeI, but i remember that Suebi was a full on ambush faction, Hide in the bushes, lure the enemy, pounce on them and murder them

They have more heavy armoured units than the Lugii. Now the Lugii is the full on ambush faction.

When I played Suebi or really most barbarian factions, ambush, and try to build big armies, surround the enemy and hit them from all sides, especially early in the game when your troop quality if pretty weak. If you don't win the blitz, most likely your forces will start to die quickly in melee and rout. Use generals as your heavy cav to smash into the rear once enemy forces are pinned along with some club infantry.

If your anvil is weak - use more hammers. I normally use 6-8 heavy cav to ensure that the enemy line breaks quicker than mine.

Saying the truth I am really bad at ambush fight... I dont understand how to ambush right. I mean inbattle ambush not using of the Ambush stance. AI lines are wide so it's almost pointless to place units such as berserkers or skutjanz outside of the deployment zone because enemy spots them fast. I really want to use units that could be deploied outside of the deployment zone. By now I am on 53 turn and have 2 full provinces Suebia, Hercyinia and Koria region. I started to use: 5-Suiones Herunautoz (good for holding line cause of Shield stance); 4 -Woithiz Watha (back strike and anti cav), 4- Kherunoutôz Khasþengoi (outflanking), 2-Gaisofulkho(as reserv); 4-Sitones Swajut (great damage, I use them on the back line and after enemy cav was related to combat i move them to enemies back and bring death. BTW i use archers as well but on my other army); 2-Gautoz Ridanz(for cav purposes ofc). The downside of such an army is bad mobility and luck of long distance missle units.

Maybe try using narrower formation, so also AI will deploy in the same way and you will be able to use those units effectively... in my experiance using wide lines is not a good tactics as you really don't have any reserves and if one unit breaks, you will probably lose

I must apologise for my english its not my native. Actualy in my exp AI always use wide formation no matter what. I tried to use narrower formation my self and was suprised whan saw AI army is going to surround me. I think players formation do not affect AI.

Strange... in my campaigns I always noticed that AI formation was based on my own.

I try to use Roman checkers formation as much as possible and with great effect with almost any faction. I've even use it with phalanx and was successful.

I use alot of ambushes when playing as the Suebi or Lugii. Just lure the enemy into a narrow gap on the campaign map with a smaller army and then have a large army ready in the forest to spring the trap. Then deploy your troops on both sides of the enemy. They will usually try and face the units they see first and then you can attack them in the rear. When fighting ordinary battles try using the ecthelon formation. When your most forward troops win they can reinforce the next one and repeat. Then you will gain the upper hand over the entire battlefront

I just played a lot with Suebi. It's all about the archers (longbow hunters). Get your generals and armies to level up as much on missiles as possible. My archers were doing about 30dmg at 200 range.

5 units of these elite Longbow hunters can easily destroy all enemy missile troops at the beginning. Then focus fire on a unit at the end of their line. Send around your club infantry to make them rout (hide the club infantry at first, or keep then around the back of your line). Then simply eat up the enemy line until you get to the middle.

I normally use 3 Germanic youth javelins too. So 8/20 of my army are missiles. About 7/20 are spears (inc 4 scary units). And the rest are the hammer (clubs or horses).

At setup it looks like this: (X=Scary spears. S=Spears. J=Javs. A=Archers. H=Hammer units which sneak around the sound after the front lines are engaged.)

    X--S--X--S--X--S--X
    H---JAAJAAAJ-------H
    H-------------------H
