Interesting testing though Causeless. Perhaps there is a slim hope or maybe there will be tools at some point.
I've tested with cavalry running across the maps. All cities and towns are the same size - I'm guessing 2048. Field battles are all 1024, or 1/4 the total size, as far as I can tell.

I've had success modifying battle map sizes - but so far only historical battles.
The highest stable limit is probably around about 2048m. I'll check more to see if I can modify naval battles and custom battles - and if these limits only exist on historical maps (which AFAIK are 100% separate from normal ones)

Had no luck changing non-historical battles... it might be hardcoded.
