Default Remember mtw1 had captain's names next to units

Remember in MTW1 when at least in the historical battles you could see who the captain was of each unit when you cursored over?
This was a neat way of following and remembering your units exploits. Making them less "just another unit of knights" or other unit.
Also at the end of the battle you saw the report "captain De La Pole chivalrous Knights" 121 kills and such

does anyone know whether this feature is in?? I cannot see it in the demo and was a little dissappointed

Also dissappointed I cannot put my prisoners to death

You will be able to kill them in the full game(your prisoners that is).

Executing the prisoners gives your generals dread as well, whilst sparing them gives them chivalry.

Well, names of captians in MTW was because every unit could get a title, not only generals bodyguards like in RTW.

It's a nice feature to distinquish certain units on the battlefield, especially after numerous campaigns. I think this would be a nice add...similar to the SPQR mod and others with the named legions and such. Gives the game some more character.

ya, i guess it's too late to add now,
but for the future total war series, i always thought it would be good to actually name every soldier (not every unit, every individual soldier) and give them an age and count their kills. This way you could track each individual soldier through the battles, and you would see great swordsmen develop. This could also be incorporated into the experience system, as the experience could actually be placed on an individual soldier. So you would not only know the general experience of the unit, but you would also know the experience of each soldier. Also when retraining a unit with alot of fine swordsmen, those swordsmen would stay as experienced as they are, but they would just be standing next to some rookie men. This could also be incorprated in to a database of all of your battles. With all of your battles in a campaign saved, you would be able to go back and follow a man from his first battle, to his last. I would love to just watch replays as i track my best swordman ever who racked up 300 kills. That would be awesome.
    what do you guys think?

If they did that, it would require thousands upon thousands of names, endless text, and then looking through thousands of names of soldiers to just find one, if he's even alive...

The benifits do not outweight the costs...

Edit: And how many people would actually use this feature?

It's the little things, the cool little details, that make a good game awesome.

And thats like, what, a 100kb .txt file? Medieval I did this. You make it sound like it would chew up 50% of your cpu. It wouldn't require any of the stuff you mentioned.

The engine already tracks the experience of individual soldiers, not the experience of the unit as a whole. Which is why merging an experienced unit with less experienced troops brings down the chevrons.

Adding a name and a rank would be nothing.

    Edit:

I don't think it's on the campaign map and such, though. Man, I bet going through endless text files to generate the captains name is the reason why there's a loading bar.

    ^^he just pwned someone^^

I hardly ever had an army without a general anyway in my campaigns in RTW. I just never saw the logic in having a beefed out army w/o a General. Plus units with captains tend to fight only half of a fight that a true army with a general would fight.

I like the idea of each unit having a captain or leader attached to it, I remember the kill sheets after battles in MTW, and each unit had a captain... It was sweet as...
