Hey everyone,
Looking to start a small hotseat campaign with some youtubers. We now have 5 players. If you are also a youtuber feel free to message me for future hotseats. I'd like this to continue past this one series.
The rules will be different from most hotseats here so that we can make as entertaining a campaign as possible.
This thread will hopefully showcase how the hotseat progresses as we go forward. The OP will update to include the rules and details of the campaign. We'd like to have a discussion to finalise them.
Here's a rough idea of some of the basic rules. They are subject to change.
rules:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
1. Each turn must be recorded with commentary from start to end turn without edits (including load screens) and must be no longer than 1 hour. You cannot artificially speed up the video to give yourself more time. If you upload a video that is longer than 1 hour you will be penalized.
2. Reloading is allowed within the video. However, the more you reload the more time you are consuming. You can restart your turn and video from scratch. There's no way to make sure you don't do it anyway.
3. Your turn must be played and the save passed on within 48 hours (Special circumstance will allow extensions).
4. You are allowed to fight all battles manually including against human opponents. The more you manually resolve, the more time you will consume. Forcing you to make faster decisions.
5. No campaign map exploits. (list of banned exploits TBA)
6. Spy Agent action allowed on all %, but the lower the chance the more time it will take you to succeed through reloading. No restrictions on how many spies needed to open gate.
7. Assassinations allowed at 40% for enemy agents, 60% on generals and family members, 80% for sabotage. Max 3 assassins per faction. You can assassinate faction leaders.
8. No Jihads.
9. You must have a two turn gap when uploading your videos to your Youtube channel. For example when you finish turn 1, do not upload the video. After you finish turn 3 then upload the video for your turn 1. The next player doesn't have to start until your video is uploaded.
10. Heroic victories are allowed.
11. Alliances and Non Aggression Pacts can be made publicly or secretly. To make one publicly both parties need to say so in their videos and write here of their agreement. Breaking of a publicly known treaty without good reason will incur dishonorable title. For example if I break an alliance for no good reason, you can from then on call me Legend the Oathbreaker. This is just for a bit of fun. Obviously you will also incur the distrust of everyone in the game if you break a treaty. Breaking a secret treaty incurs no penalty except distrust with the person you made it with. Nobody else should use it as an excuse to distrust them.
12. To break a publicly known alliance with no penalty, you must publicly break it and send a diplomat in game to cancel it. You do not have to give a reason. Upon breaking the alliance you will be considered a trucebreaker if you attack the other party within 5 turns of cancelling the alliance. The other party can attack you immediately with no penalty.
13. You can leave an army inside a navy at port. The is often banned. The reason this is to provide extra strategic options. They are certainly not of any use in a port, and are not invulnerable. Losing the region puts them at huge risk.
14. If the port is under blockade, the navy inside cannot sneak out. The blockade must be lifted first.
15. For players that came first. If one of your armies are defeated then you cannot move it the next turn. It can be attacked again by the aggressor. Try not to lose battles. It will suck.
16. Do not initiate any diplomacy with AI. If they offer you a deal you can either accept or reject. No haggling.
A few hints and tips for those not used to hotseats.
1. Try to avoid being attacked. If possible be the one that initiates the battle. You will have a much greater chance of winning.
2. Spam spies. They are your best friend in a hotseat campaign.
3. Don't manually resolve all battles if you have many to do. You will never do them all in an hour unless they are extremely fast. Remember you cannot cut out load screens.
4. Pick you allies carefully, and pick your enemies even more so. If you don't they will be chosen for you.
Campaign is Kingdoms Crusades.
Antioch - Lionheartx10
Jerusalem - totaltotalwar
Egypt - Alex The Rambler!
Turks - LegendofTotalWar
Byzantine Empire -oOiYvYiOo
List of banned exploits:
Merchant stacking
Agent squashing
Movement bug of any kind. However, sending your general to attack a settlement then bringing the rest of the army is allowed.
Recruitment pool increasing
Attacking ships inside a port
Pushing enemy agents with your own agents. You can push them with your armies, just don't squash them.

Re: Medieval 2 Kingdoms hotseat for Total War youtubers
The rules seem fine to me. Just a question I didn't ask oOIYvYIOo or you, my channel is the biggest one in Portuguese language, do the commentaries have to be in English? If they are, there's no problem, I just warn my subs about the project and they'll understand. I guess it's a good point to discuss because it's possible that some channels with commentaries in other languages join our campaign.

Just a few questions on the rules you guys will be doing.

An oddly specific rule. Does this mean that Clear/Average/Close victories are forbidden?

Why would any one make a rule against blockading ports with land units? Surely blockading is just blockading, no matter what units you use.

Movement bug of any kind. However, sending your general to attack a settlement then bringing the rest of the army is allowed.
What is this movement bug you speak of?
Recruitment pool increasing
I feel like I shouldn't ask what you mean by this, less the knowlede of how to increase the recruitment pool poisons me. Unless by "Recruitment pool increasing" you mean upgrading settlements.
Attacking ships inside a port
The most oddly specific rule of them all, since last time I checked you couldn't attack ships inside of ports. What else are you going to forbid, Irish mercenaries?

Re: Medieval 2 Kingdoms hotseat for Total War youtubers
Heroics are normally banned in hotseats to prevent excessive reloading, he mclarifies by that rule that any clean victory is permissible.
It is not against blocking ports with units ( general consensus is that ships can enter and leave land based port blockades ) -
but keeping armies in ships inside ports where they cannot be attacked without using a special technique considered a bug.
There are many ways to make your forces/agents move further than they should be able to, being the one to reach your enemy deciding when and where to fight is invaluable.
Recruitment pool increasing is a means to go beyond the unit pool maximum, elite units are usually expensive to have and you cannot have many in your unit pools. Imagine having 10 war galleys available to recruit, when the usual max is 2 and it takes 4 turns to replenish a single one. ( no upkeep while waiting either ).
