Oh noes! "7900GT overclocking fiasco"... Well, they should do better cards then.
But yeah, consumers overclock it anyway.

Yes, it will be fast enough, no doubt about it, but it might really need overclocking after a year or two.
And this only means that pre-overclocked models aren't available, but they can still be overclocked? (I remember pre-overclocked 7900GT's like Asus's Top exploded all the time )

Yes, I think this only applies to pre-overclocking.
And pre-overclocking sucks anyways because you usually pay a lot extra for it.

This shouldn't effect user-side overclocking, except that the standard drivers most likely won't provide any oc options (when did they ever?) so you will need a special "hacked" driver version.

Not to mention pre-overclocking doesn't make a damned difference. I had a BFG 7900GT OC. It was like an OC of 20 MHz on the core and memory. Woopty-doo!

Woopty doo is right, I am just waiting for mine to blow up all over the 4200 so I can sue and get a 5000, lol. Shaun, I know you love ATI, and my knowledge is scarce, but do people OC ATI cards and do they also break.

Yet another reason to go ATi.

Thanks to the noobs that fries their cards and begs the vendors for a new one. Quite understanable by Nvidia as it may cost them millions by such actions. Though overclocking is one of my favorite things to do, so its sad if its true.

Like what Erik said, this applies to nVIDIA's distribution partners only. You can still overclock via Coolbits/RivaTuner.

yes this is only for distributors, but I imagine EVGA's warranty covarage for consumer Overclocking will be eliminated

Never found ATi cards to be heavy OC'ers. My 9200SE didn't OC, 9600Pro didn't OC, 9800Pro didn't OC, X800Pro and X800XL didn't OC, now I have a X1900XT OC'ed to XTX speeds.. not bad. Shame... it sounds like a jet engine's in my PC.

Most of my nvidia cards didn't OC well, either. Then I found 7800GTs and 7900GTs..
