Planning on buying a new rig?
Just a quick thought for those of you who are thinking of investing in a new rig in the near future.
I am no expert by any means, but have been doing a fair bit of surfing on the internet (instead of working) and reading up on direct x 10 and graphics card compatibility.
It seems that no current graphics card on the market today will be direct x 10 compatible. The good news is that it dx10 will not be out until Vista comes out next year and even than it will take some time for developers to start utilising dx10 in their games. However, if you are the type who saves all his money and than likes to invest in the latest hardware, you may be forced to upgrade sooner than you have anticipated. In other words, you will be wasting your hard earned cash. And believe me when you find out about the benefits of direct x 10, you will want your hardware to be compatible!
What seems to be the rational thing to do is buy a high end rig in anticipation for M2TW mainly, with the exception of the graphics card. I'll probably buy a card that still runs M2TW well but by no means is one of those really high end cards. When vista comes out with direct x 10, I will upgrade my video card. It is anticipated that these new gen video cards will be compatable with any mobo with PCI-E x16 so even most mobos of today will be ok.
If I am wrong please feel free to corect me or if any of you are knowledgable in this field, please comment!

Re: Planning on buying a new rig?
If I were to buy a Direct x 10 card, I would wait to buy a second or third generation card, just so I can get top performance, but at an affordable price...

Shazbot is a wise man. Wait untill the later generations for all the bugs (and there is quite a lot apparently) to get ironed out. Not to mention that the nVidia G80 cannot be OCed (which means that all version will have same performance) and there are plenty of other bad rumors about the first gen DX10 cards.
