    Default Need Laptop help

Once again, I need advice from my fellow basement dwellers. It seems as if I shall be going to a private school within the next 3 months or so, and one of the requirements is a laptop. The thing is, I need this to be a decent laptop. I have an old one sitting around (1.6ghz proc, 256RAM, 64MB Graphics) but that wont suffice.

I basically need a laptop which I can do an assortment of Multimedia tasks, multi-task on etc. gaming is not a priority, but I still want to be able to play games somewhat decent.

So far, i've been looking at Dell. My budget is roughly US $2,100 . So, if anyone can find something worthwhile just tell me! Or suggestions of course

I'll go with Arjun if you don't plan on gaming, but if you want a nice gaming laptop go with the Inspiron E1705 communisto posted.

I found the below computer from dell. It is pushing my budget (i'll be dirt broke after this, and really can barely afford it in the first place)... probably gonna be short on cash for a car in the spring-summer, but whatever

So, for $2,095 , tell me if you guys like it, or if I should try shopping somewhere other than Dell.

ahh, the xps one, well, if you want to sacrifice a built in webcam, for less cash money (lol) you could get the laptop i suggested, and it has a go7800, which i believe is better than a go7400, it also has T7400 cpu, which has 4mb L2 cache, but, not my 2k (i wish)

Both have advantages, and i'm stuck between em. The RAM is slightly faster in mine(667mhz vs 533mhz) and I have an aditional webcam added into the mix. A couple of other slight features such as the XPS allowing a bit more airflow... hopefully my desk wont catch on fire.

They are basically the same, what we provided, except with yours, a better VC, and mine, slightly better RAM... I think mine is widescreen too (12.1 inch I think) while yours is 17 inch normal.

Meh, I need the other pro opinions in this basement

Go with the one communisto listed, XPS isn't any different than normal laptops. DDR2-667 have almost no improvement over DDR2-533, I'm not sure if Core 2 Duo even take advantage of DDR2-667 yet.

With a Core 2 Duo processor, your desk will never catch on fire, no matter what the model is.

I'll have to go with Incinerate_IV on this one and say:

Go with the one Communisto posted.

Faster Processor. Has a 7900GS which is something like 3-4 times faster than a 7400 (Turbocache too! That means it uses up system RAM as it lacks any dedicated VRAM)

    unlike your amd Laptop?

Thanks for the advice guys, when i get the money saved up, i'll go for that one. I'm usually good with computers, but I like desktops better than laptops, hence my confusion.
