    Default Battles now require much more PC power - not enough speed!

    After the latest ''"""""update"""""'' by CA, Stainless Steel can't handle battles with more than 2-3 armies. In open battles, reinforcements do not arrive and I get a message that they have been delayed. (I haven't tested whether the same problem exists in the vanilla.)

    Usually, reinforcements do spawn, but only after enough units have died or fled. In that case, the first reinforcing army spawns and units join the battle one by one, after that the next reinforcing army comes and the units join the battle one by one as normal. However, at the beginning, the reinforcing armies from the strategic map do not appear in any shape or form in the battle map, not even when they're waiting outside the red line.

    This is absurd, since my PC can run Battlefield 3 on nearly the highest visual quality. For example, just now, my army was attacked by 4 separate small armies of Turks, and as soon as the battle map loaded, I got lag every 2-3 seconds. I deployed and let the battle start, at which point the lag became unbearable and I reduced the game speed to 0.5. It still lagged and in less than a minute the game CTD. I used to fight huge, huge battles 1 week ago (lowering details, ofc, in order not to crash), but after the "update" it has apparently stopped.

    This first problem you are having is an easy fix.

    #1. Open your main medieval II total war folder. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...2023.10.30.png

    #2. Find your "medieval2.preference" file with its "cfg" extension and copy and paste that to the same folder as a back up copy. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...2023.11.01.png

    #3. Right-click and edit your "medieval2.preference" file with notepad and find the line "unlimited_men_on_battlefield = #"



    #4. For unlimited men on the battlefield 0 = no and 1 = yes, so go ahead and change the 0 to a 1.

    #5. Save and exit your "medieval2.preference" file and launch up SS to see if this takes care of your problem.

    I have no idea what this means if you are crashing just from the sheer amount of units or from a data/textures error but I'm guessing that some part of your SS is corrupted and causing the crash, although I may be wrong.

    It might be a texture on one of the units that is involved in the battle. The units that have this issue when upgrading include, that I know of, the hospitaller knights, the Italian men at arms, and the German men at arms. There are fixes available on the forum:

    For the record, Melooo182's bugfix compilation solves the problem, big battles are playable once again
