    Default Graphics worse the Shogun?

Well it's been bothering me since I first bought Rome 2, but recently I reinstalled both Rome2 and Shogun 2 and Shogun 2 grapics looked way more superior than Rome's. I mean they look smoother, more polished, and metal lloks like metal and not like plastic. It may be just me, but what do you guys think?

I agree with FrozenmenSS, the night battles are what looks worse in Rome II than in Shogun 2.

Personally, I feel they're completely different art styles as well. One is more stylized (Shogun 2) and the other is more 'standard' if you will (Rome II). I think that's why people say that Shogun 2 looks better than Rome II, because it stood out a bit art wise.

Well, I also re-installed Shogun II after over 200 hours of game play with Rome II. You know the feeling of when you get a new phone or laptop and go back to using your old devices they look ugly and utterly slow all of a second? Same thing happened to me. In my memory, Shogun II was on par with Rome II, but, after playing them back to back Rome II looks much better and solid to me.

Not to forget to mention that the UI seems a lot better in Rome 2 after getting used to it. I still wish the UI was on par with the Empire type UI, where there was specific button for advance, retreating, and having left and right turns.

I have to agree here. I had the same feeling but in all honesty Rome looks better

The biggest issue with the graphics in Rome 2 is the colour palette. Desert maps kinda look like vomit in vanilla, for example. Just download GEM or equivalent and it looks a whole lot better.

Turn on unlimited video memory, otherwise the game automatically starts downgrading your graphics no matter what you set in your menu. had the same issue.

as long you know what negative effects this casts, you can do this.

well... I agree equal in some ways, but the MLAA antialiasing seem the most reason why people even do see a worser quality.

I think the problem lies in the aesthetics, Shogun looks better because it has better aesthetics. The technology behind both games is essentially the same. The "smoothness" lacking in Rome II is because of the lack of non blur based anti aliasing.

A comparison that i would make personally would be between Stalker (modded) and the Crysis games. Crysis has a lot more advanced graphics techniques driving the engine, but stalker looks more natural looking and pleasing to the eye.

The only thing I can say with certainty is that Rome 2 looks worse on lower end systems simply due to the fact that Shogun 2 could be run at higher settings. Given the lack of graphical difference between the games I do find this a bit odd.

I think it's safe to say that Shogun 2 was way more optimized.

Yeah it'd be nice if patch 15 would tighten things up in this regard - but I won't hold my breath.

this thread encouraged me to re-post issues about blocky and flickering shadows (in the patch 14 beta thread), which ironically even existed in a pre-release video of CA, so we cannot blame the user really (drivers, settings etc.). An there are many with this problem if you google the issue about Rome 2.
