OK. Nothing went wrong, and I think I got everything. I'm going to try downloading again. On a side note, would you recommend that I download the game via torrent if this doesn't work, or would that be a bad idea?

EDIT: Tried again. The connection still dropped off, though I got another 200 MB in somehow. I think it might just be my internet or my Steam client or something.

Torrents are a bad idea in a lot of ways, the first being against the rules to discuss here.

Steam can do it. It just needs a little help at times.

I cannot think of what the problem could be. What do you think? I just downloaded a demo without a problem. The issue seems to only apply to M2TW.

How many other games do you have in the download queue? The way their servers get at times one download at a time seems enough.

When was the last time you ran disk cleanup and did a deep optimized defrag?

What antivirus, firewall, etc. are you using?

I don't have any other games in the queue.

It's been awhile, I'll try that.

I use Avast antivirus.

Avast the last couple of days has been throwing false positives and deleting stuff on its own. It happened to Gigantus trying ti upload a .bat file for a mod. Try it without it.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free and you can use it in the meantime.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure how to turn Avast off. Are you sure that's what's causing the problem?

I've been looking around the Steam forums, and I found a couple solutions I'm going to try.

I've seen AVG do it before. I've had Zone Alarm throw up roadblocks and had to set permissions manually.

This is why I sadi, "Test".

In the box above start type msconfig or system config. It may come up either way. Go through the Startup tab and uncheck it. Restart your computer and see if it is not loaded.

Problem solved! I just reinstalled Steam.

Alright, I have another problem. None of my mods work. Whenever I run the batch files, a message banner comes up saying "This app cannot run on your PC" Stainless Steel gives an error stating that it can't find my kingdoms.exe.

The one about making a copy of the new medieval2.exe into kingdoms.exe is the one you need.

Hi there, I've tried all the fixes given and nothing seems to work. I have renamed and copied the medieval.exe to kingdoms.exe....still says it can't find it. I have altered the launch options via steam to my stainless steel folder, still just opens up vanilla MTW2. I've even tried the KingdomsLauncherApp, it says I need to install or run either program (vanilla or kingdoms) to work despite having everything installed. I've asked a few people on forums.totalwar.com but everyone just recommends the fix you gave...which don't seem to work for me. I'm in desperate need of help as I love this game too much to just never play again due to a patch update. Please.

Ask in the SS forum - they should know how to start Stainless Steel via Steam. It maybe that SS has a custom start up file and requires a special BAT file. I think Third Age has that issue, too. Or was it only SS? Not sure.

Sometimes I have trouble with the graphics for breaking down walls with artillery... It looks all glitchy...

Are you talking about data\text\descr_shortcuts? It requires deleting the keys.dat file in the mod's (and the game's) preferences folder to take effect.
Make sure to include that folder when you upload your work.

If you are talking about regular key changing then the same will work, too - my guess is that the file is somehow write protected or needs some admin permissions.
