    Default [NTO Project] MeDeO

    So I decided to open the MeDeO thread now.

    Basically this first post will always contain the most up to date version aswell as a list of downloadable battles. Therefore: post your battle configurations here, preferably with a short description of the scenery and situation if you want your battle to be included in the first version.

    Regarding the release date, as mentioned in the other thread, it is yet to be seen if the new demo will use the same file format and if it does you can expect the first version someday tomorrow or the day after hopefully.

    So, let´s get started.

    List of Battles up for includement in the first version:

    Please post the descr_battle.txt files with the [code] tags and also metion whether the battle was designed for Pavia or Agincourt!

    Thanks Xennik for starting the thread.

    The necessary steps before you start to play and mod your own Custom MTW2 Demo Battles:

    1. Patching the data.pack file.

    Here is a link to the last version of the ShellShocks utility for patching the data.pack file - the key step for "cracking the demo". Follow only the intructions in his original thread.....

    Now the changing of names for both pavia and agincourt is done also in this more convenient way. This was feasible already before for both the Agincourt and Pavia battles, but till this time it has been reachable only by hexediting the data.pack file manually..... All credits for the Utility go to the ShellShock, thanks again for sharing your work with community .

    2. Copy the new structure of folders and files, which will be used instead of the original ones in data.pack, to the Data folder.

    I have attached to this post the prefabricated structure of world subfolder which have to be copied in Data folder in your root MTW2 Demo folder to create data/world/.../custom folder with pavia and agincourt subfolders, in which are the scripts with respective names. So you will have to only download, unzip, copy and paste.....

    3. paste the respective descr_battle.txt files to the .../pavia and .../agincourt folders created in the Data folder in the step 2.
    You must pick the appropriate ones for respective battle.

    For developers:
    To keep things 100% functional be careful mainly with your definitions of batle name in header (Pavia vs Agincourt) and the script files in the end of the descr_battle.txt file (pavia_script.txt versus agincourt_script.txt) - see this:

    Both scripts are identical now (only the names are different), but theoretically it could be necessary to change them a bit and then all would be messed with the inapproppriate names....

    My first battle, which was functional - a lot of fun with 20 King Henry V units against the France as Human Player ......


    For reference and eventual seeing the context of its creation see the original download link in the Project thread. There is now a lot of better battles, but this was the first customised and non-scripted one in the same time. However roster of English units was a bit smaller than one could wait .....

    Description:
    Both England and France are starting in the same positions like in original demo before the scripted moving of cameras has started. It is only on you how and when you will decide to interact with England but they will go against you in the end in every case ... The battle is balanced as for mutual strenghts of armies to let the decision, who will be victorious, to be dependent on chance a bit and certainly on your commanding skills.

    A little battle that i made were the french must defend the hill top and fight back the spanish army that is advancing towards them.
    The french must make the most of there cannons the repel the spanish dogs that out number them 2-1.

    this isnt really a hard fight, if you use the terrain right you should dominate as france... attacking as england is another story though heh

    i set this up mainly to test the importance of terrain, the idea is that the french can line their archers and cannons up on the small cliff and guard the flanks with pikemen - its alot of fun, and even with the terrain the way it is, the infantry strong english will give you a fight


    the deployment positions arent very good, but they work - special thanks to iplk because i used his deployment positions as a basis for my guesswork ;p

    I've have updated the original MedBattleSelector post with a new version that also patches the data.pack file, so you no longer need the separate TWGrep to do that.

    MedBattleSelector does two things:

    It patches the demo pack files so you can play custom battles.
    It enables you to easily select between different custom battles.

    excellent work guys!

    here i've made the file sctructures for all the current custom battles for agincourt. just extract to data/world/agincourt/custom folder and then select which one u want to play with that excellent battle selector tool. i've named the folders as descriptively as i could, too.

    Excellent work - but I think you mean that this should be extracted to the data\world\maps\battle\custom\agincourt folder.

    Default MedBattleSelector with custom battles

    Attached to this post is the new version of the battle selector, called MedBattleSelector; with this version you can now multi-select battles in the list box, and each one will be installed (copied) when clicking Play. This means you can select e.g., an Agincourt, a Pavia and an Otumba battle to install. If you select multiple battles of the same type (e.g., Agincourt), only the last one will be installed.

    Once you have finished playing a battle in the M2TW demo and want to play another one, you do not need to quit the demo. Instead use Alt+Tab to switch out of the demo to the MedBattleSelector window, and then choose the new battle and click Play. MedBattleSelector will install the new battle and then display the M2TW demo window again.

    Double clicking an item in the MedBattleSelector list box will install it and then launch the M2TW demo.

    MedBattleSelector does the following:

    It installs custom battles contributed by community members.
    It patches the demo pack files so you can play custom battles.
    It enables you to easily select between different custom battles.

    Extract the MedBattleSelector.zip file to your "Medieval II Total War Demo SE" or "Medieval II Total War Demo Gold"
    directory (the same directory as medieval2.exe). Make sure when unzipping that you "Use folder names"
    (Winzip) or the equivalent option.

    This a .Net Framework 2 application; if you haven't got that already, grab the English version from Microsoft.

    This will create the following directory structure:

    nice one m8! how come there are more custom battles in there than that are posted in this thread??? I thought this was the only place custom battles were posted?

    also I diden't make any custom battle yet I'm credited for 6 of them???? LOL!

    i think the following changes in your descr_strat.txt files are necessary:
    - delete the last line with the reference to the script (to avoid the armies executing the demo script)
    - home faction should be in attacking modus

    MedBattleSelector does the following:

    It installs custom battles contributed by community members.
    It patches the demo pack files so you can play custom battles.
    It enables you to easily select between different custom battles.

    Extract the MedBattleSelector.zip file to your "Medieval II Total War Demo SE" directory (the same directory as
    medieval2.exe). Make sure when unzipping that you "Use folder names" (Winzip) or the equivalent option.

    This a .Net Framework 2 application; if you haven't got that already, grab it from Microsoft.

    This will create the following directory structure:

    The MedBattleSelector comes complete with custom battles created by community member. Each custom battle
    is shown in the list box with the contributor's name, followed by a hypen and then a decription of the battle.
    Generally the first faction is the playable one. So, a battle called "ShellShock - France V England" will have
    been written by me, with France (playable) against England.

    In each "custom battle" sub-directory put the script files for that battle. You can call the sub-directories
    whatever name you like - it does not have to be "custom battle". And you can have as many sub-directories as
    you like (I've just shown 3).

    So for example, in "Medieval II Total War Demo SE\data\world\maps\battle\custom\agincourt\custom battle 1" I
    could put the files

    agincourt_script.txt
    descr_battle.txt

    Thank you for including the functional strings in the config file, mainly the Pavia battle was crippled by the older ones and this is now proven that it is more genral thing these strings (I ahve spend with similar thing last night unfortunatelly .... ).

    The main reason why I write you is asking for permission of alternative distribution of your MedBattleSelector for purúposes of playing with my HP formations already in MTW2. I ahve them ready now for release, however after the previous experience with newbies, I think that asking somebody for hexediting of one letter would be interpreted as freakage from my side . Your produst is perfect for my purposes, I will change only the config as for the adding formations string and eventually inlude my collestion of battles, in which I have tested the formations (this is for ai formations, which are tillyet wip and are unstable on some maps ...). Credits granted ....

    Also I think that the d3v should be solved already, for reference see the post under this your post .... I think that at least iplk is worth of copyright for his batlle on top of the hill in agincourt, this battle I like personally very much, plaed it several times, genial placement, altogether master piece. So, why d3v should have credits for it ....

    Yes I copied your .config! I'm glad you found it easy to work out. In case any one wants to know, MedBattleSelector.exe.config controls the patching of files, e.g.,

    <string>packs\data.pack,agincourt_script.txt,bgincourt_script.txt,0x100000</string>

    The items are:

    The pack file name.
    The string to search for.
    The string to replace it with. Only the first occurrence will be replaced.
    The maximum hex address - will not search beyond this. This stops it searching the whole pack file (which can be sloooooow).

    Yes, please distribute it as you want. I see repman already has. The best thing is to install both MedBattleSelector and custom battles into the right directories, to make it as easy as possible for newbies.

    I hope you like the new details box - makes it easier to tell what is in each battle before you play it.
