Excuse me but there are many people who is still play M2TW MP also multiplayer is a core part of a game and has priority over any add-ons.
Excuse me but people still play M2TW because of the mods, that's its major selling point.

Well according to steam right now there are 600ish so people playing M2TW, however it is impossible to know how many are actually playing vanilla multiplayer.

Im not going to get into a flame war cause argument is cyclic, but fixing MP didn't break the mods. What they changed in the kingdoms.exe to make it a DLC is what broke the bat file and config system.

Besides there is an easy fix as stated above. No need to rip apart then devs for an unintentional inconvenience people who play with mods have to suffer.

THIS IS SO CRAZY. I was so mad yesterday.. I have a HELL OF A SLOW internet connection.. 2 days ago i decided to redownload Medieval 2 for Third Age Total War Action (Medieval 2 being one of my most played games).
So i downloaded medieval 2 + medieval 2 kingdoms + third age total war .. It took me one FULL DAY to download the game and finally be able to play.. so after all the downloading for 24 hours i FINALLY started up third age total war, played around 15-20 minutes and then decided that i need a submod for it... closed the game. downloaded the submod DAC and wanted to start the game again after installing DAC.

And what happens? FREAKING GAME UPDATES???? 10.2 GIGABYTE? Gosh i was SO angry. I was so looking forward to play yesterday. i even went home early from work just to play some medieval. and then this. -.- gosh CA couldnt you have done this a week ago? or maybe just 1 day ago? -.- i REALLY hope the mods still work.. i will find out tonight - hopefully ....

Wait so if I previously installed mods (TATW) by renaming a kingdoms campaign will the mod be affected?

Nope. Every mod I've tried works fine.

I Think so. I used to play TATWMOS under the americas folder. Now TATWMOS doesn't work anymore when I us the steam launcher. But when I rename any mod that wasn't under a kingdoms folder name(so wasn't seen by the update) they work fine after I put them under the americas folder.

That can't be right...can it ?...I mean I am going to contact steam and raise "@$#%$" with them if my games are updating when I have them set not to in the properties...this is the main reason for this feature !!!!!

Easy fix only goes so far. Trying to load save games on SS = CTD.

Stupid, stupid decision by CA to do this with no mod support. Outrageous.

    Really?

Originally my renamed file was crusades, but clicking Crusades would take me to the vanilla Crusades campaign. So I renamed my SS folder to americas, and then it loaded to the menu - but "continue campaign" resulted in CTD.

I'm using the SSHIP submod, but I don't see how that would have impacted it.

Ever since I started using stainless steel 6.4 whenever I click on continue campaign it CTD, but loading any save file is fine, not that big of a deal, why don't you try loading your last saved game instead of clicking on campaign.

Way ahead of you. I've tried loading 4 different saves, and CTD every time.

So I went into start a new campaign, and that's where I think the issue lies - it just says "Crusades 1AD" and "NO DESCRIPTION" and there's no option to choose any factions or anything. Which leads me to believe it's an issue with how SSHIP affects things. Hopefully they'll be able to conjur up a workaround, since I don't think I can go back to vanilla.

I am sorry to ask this here but I am also confused...even if you have steam set to "do not automatically update this game" in the properties of M2TW this update will take place anyway ??

For some reason steam now claims that I don't own the Kingdoms expansion. Any idea how to fix this without reinstalling?

Again, why would anyone have a game this old that there is no more development for and one for which they extensively mod set to "auto update" as the OP's is clearly set to in the screenshot ????

Can someone please give me their opinion on this ?

Probably caused by exactly this reason.
    The auto-update is default setting.
If you didn´t got your games destroyed before by 1) desolate bullcrap-"up"dates like the ones that Crusader Kings 2 gets all the time, or 2) a useless update that is messing up all you fine-working mods (Shogun 2 or, worse, Rome 2 because the ladder is a piece of crap unmodded), then you don´t remember to take for that, i guess.
Who expect that someone is goofing around with such an old game, thats almost necrophilia.
