I've tested out the Siege AI in vanilla, and I have to say, it's made a great difference, I actually got beat, true the enemy had a superior force, but the thing is all of them got inside the city, over the walls, through the breaches caused by siege engines, and through the gate, units that won past a breach flanked other units I had holding back the flood, and there is no doubt that the AI is re-using the towers and ladders, things are looking up for a change![]()
A little slower in some places (battle loading times), a little faster in others (battles themselves), but nothing broke or crashed after a couple turns from a Patch 13 DeI save.
OIMG, can't wait for the patch14 + DEI0.95 combo!
So I heard they fixed siege AI at last. woot?
iam yet to see if thats a patch problem but my army seems to be loosing units far quicker than before, i played rome vs syracause in a campaign battle

well yep i've tested it both with the 13 and the 14 beta patch and the 14beta creates major unbalances in battles at least for polybian rome, my army was devestated by the syraceusans with 14 beta patch install while it won with patch13.

I'm finding a similar thing though I'm not sure if it was this bad before. A unit of 60 Periokoi (?) Hoplites from a ship versus my unit of 240 Late Principes, the principes were down to 170/240 and the Hoplites were down to 50/60 before I killed them with missile fire. Charging a unit of Hastati into their rear did almost nothing as well, has to be missiles. Also in a Siege on the Boii my Principes were either routed on the walls by Celtic Tribesman or were held for such a long time that missile towers finished them off.
The mod is awesome though I am gonna play a few short vanilla campaigns until 0.95 then start my Rome campaign over again =)
Problem is not the Patch, but it is DeI. The Hoplites have high initiative while the principes and hastati (since late hastati and principes have swords) have high deadliness and the current state is that initiative beats deadliness. Also ship units seem to be stronger in comparison, probably to make up for their lower unit size.
I suggest to quicksearch this forum for more informations. It is a known issue and will be adressed in the upcoming updates for DeI.

I know it was a problem earlier as well, I just wasn't sure if it had gotten worse, as I hadn't seen that particular example before (60 beating 240). I have been using Meerkatology's Rome balance mod (messes with initiative and deadliness to bring swords back up to par) and while battles versus Sparta have been overly difficult they were doable. The problem now with the patch is that since the AI actually defends it's walls with melee units now, it becomes nearly impossible to get inside the city without tremendous losses because of this imbalance.
So yes... I am eagerly awaiting the next update =)
well its gotten worse for sure. I have checked it in normal battle difficulty, with the beta patch14 you are destroyed by hoplites far easier, especially by hoplites not so much from pikemen. Previously i could handle them now i cant, so i reversed back to patch13

I think i've figured out what the problem is: i played a normal difficult battle with dei and bubba777 ancent battle realism (therefore initiative and deadliness stats are set to 0), playing as rome with batavian inf against sparta with perioikoi hoplitai. It seems like the hoplites when after charging they don't go in phalanx formation but the charge animation loops every 10 seconds (or less), therefore i think they get the charge bonus every 10 secs of fighting. The result is that my batavian inf was routed after they have lost 60-80 men (they were in shield wall formation) while the hoplites losed something like 15-20 men. Hope this will be fixed in the 0.95 dei patch
