Will it run?

Heya guys,

I've just played the MTW2 Demo. I love it, just like I love any other game in the total war series. I still have a question to ask though..

When I play RTW, or barbarian invasion I can turn up the settings to high detail on most stuff and have high unit scale for massive detailed battles, hardly any lag what so ever with that. I just saw the MTW2 settings and it says that I need atleast 512mb ram, 128mb gfx card, and a 2.5+ (?) CPU. I have :

1280mb RAM
nVidia Geforce 4200 Ti 64mb gfx card (or 128mb, I've forgot looking for a way to check?)
Intel Pentium 4 2.59 GHZ CPU

I know this doesnt meet the MTW2 requirments but I just ran the demo really good, it was so smooth, no CTD's or errors. All these months i have been wondering what has kept my system running games like half life 2, R:TW and counter strike on high settings. Basically I just need to know if I could run MTW2?

If the Demo runs without any problems i would claim, that MTW:2 full version will do the same

btw: download: everest home or aida to see all about your system. Your PC isn't that low like you say. Except the Graphic Chard it's really good enough

You should run it fine. But M2TW has imense hunger for hardware. Don't expect more than low details.

Theres the official specs to use as a footnote for you Novor. You should be able to run it fine, don't expect High everything but High on some and lower on others.

Well, if it runs the demo it will run the full game. But that is a pretty crappy system, you should think about an upgrade soon, im not surprised it dosent play HL2.

It does play HL2, and any mod that has been brought out for it.

Well the only reason it's even running is probably because all the games are in DX7 mode. Your graphics card is pretty outdated, I suggest you take it out and burn it, then go online to Newegg.com and get a nice DX9 graphics card. You don't know what you're missing out on!

My old Dell, had worse spec's (geforce3 ti 200, 1.69 ghz proc, 256 RAM) and could play RTW at the highest settings, and SPQR at Medium-High . I know I repeat it, but "crappy" spec's, dont neccessarily mean "crappy" performance!

My suggestion to the original poster though, is this. If you want to build your own computer, just tell us a budget, and we will give you the absolute best for the money you provide. If you want a retail computer, try Dell (Sorry guys!) or Acer, they make some very nice products.

Though, if he set the cache on the geforce4 to 128MB, and just did some mild performance tweaks he could probably get another 6 months or so out of it. I got 5 years out of mine, and that was a generation before!

Tried getting a 128 geforce 4400 ti i think, didn't work and that was the only attempt i made at getting a new gfx card. I presumed it wouldn't work because my motherboard might be crap so it can't support high graphics cards.

My budget = 1k-2k

When I say better graphics card I don't mean another really really outdated Geforce 4 series. I mean a nice Geforce 7600GS or better.

Can I play with medium details or only with low setting (or small setting for units)?

Pretty sure you can go with medium. Few things on high, maybe. That's not a bad system at all.

1-2K of what currency? If its GBP (£) then you are laughing, if its USD ($) then you are looking at a high end system, but not ultra high end.
